{"id":21698,"date":"2011-03-31T20:58:50","date_gmt":"2011-04-01T00:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/?p=21698"},"modified":"2011-03-31T20:58:50","modified_gmt":"2011-04-01T00:58:50","slug":"relay-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/relay-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Relay For Life honors residents touched by cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/11april\/relayth.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" \/>The American Cancer Society&#8217;s Relay For Life<!--more--> event is often defined as a celebration of life, symbolizing the courage and spirit of the more than 500,000 cancer survivors who, each year, proudly walk the event&#8217;s survivor lap at more than 5,000 Relay For Life events nationwide.<br \/>\nOn Friday, May 13th starting with registration at 4:45 p m at the St. Johns High School Football field, local cancer survivors and caregivers will be honored during the Survivor Celebration at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of St. Johns\/Clinton County. Survivor celebration activities offer both survivors and caregivers an opportunity to experience healing, receive support, and celebrate their collective victory over cancer. Relay For Life is a place where you can go to share your story without saying a word. We are inviting all cancer survivors and caregivers, no matter if it&#8217;s been one day or one decade since their diagnosis, to come out and celebrate.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/11april\/relay.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Leonard and Bernice Mitchell of Ovid take part in the Survivor and Caregiver activities at the 2010 Relay For Life of St. Johns\/Clinton County.<\/em><br \/>\nParticipating cancer survivors are given special shirts to wear as they lead a Victory Lap around the track in honor of their triumph over cancer. This year&#8217;s Victory Lap will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13th (Registration starts at 4:45 p.m.) The Victory Lap is one of the most moving experiences of the Relay. Each year cancer survivors are overwhelmed by the crowds of people who surround the track cheering them on. It reminds survivors and caregivers that they are not alone in their fight against cancer. Immediately following the Opening Ceremony and Victory Lap, all survivors and caregivers are invited to a dinner at Smith Hall.
