The group’s most recent effort occurred in mid-May when nearly a dozen students swarmed St. Johns City Park and left it empty of winter’s collection of debris.
The club, which is overseen by St. Johns Kiwanis, is a group of concerned students who pursue projects simply for the purpose of benefitting the community. “There’s no money involved,” explained Denise Uribe, Kiwanis representative for the Key Club. “The Key Club members are not in the business of raising money; their purpose is to assist and improve where needed.”
An example of the Key Club’s dedication is shown by its commitment to the Fantasy Forest play area in the St. Johns City Park. The group is the only one of its kind that has maintained a regular clean-up program since the area was opened in 2002.
Other examples of their efforts include clean-up at Sleepy Hollow State Park, assistance at the annual Relay for Life event, providing special service at Ronald McDonald House and programs to encourage physical activity and nutrition awareness for elementary age and preschool children, to name just a few.
According to Ms Uribe, the Good Wins Key Club is an ideal example of the community spirit and good works shared by so many young people in our society. “So often we lose sight of the contributions made by many of our young people. Members of the Key Club who unselfishly donate time and effort are reflective of the fact that young people are aware and do care!”

Members from St. Johns High School Good Wins Key Club pose on the grounds of Fantasy Forest before heading out to spruce up the appearance of St. Johns city park.
