Paul Opsommer today introduced legislation that would make coercing a woman into having an abortion a criminal offense.
\nHouse Bill 4799, which would be part of the Coercive Abortion Prevention Act, makes it a crime to try to force a woman to have an abortion if she expresses her intent to keep the child. In addition to allowing further charges against individuals who may use physical harm to make a woman terminate a pregnancy, the bill provides clarity regarding other forms of coercion such as tieing continued employment to having an abortion.
\n“Every life is precious, but it is especially egregious when a mother is coerced into having an abortion she did not seek,” said Opsommer, R-DeWitt. “This is the third session I have introduced this legislation and I believe that this year we will be able to get it signed into law. I think everyone can agree that no woman should be subjected to such threats and blackmail.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Prohibiting abortion coercion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-23332","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23332","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=23332"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23332\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=23332"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=23332"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=23332"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
