Frost<!--more-->, who is an emergency responder as part of his duties as a Maintenance Department employee at Carson City Hospital (CCH), recently completed training offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Alabama. The CDP is operated by the United States Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Federal Emergency Management Agency and is the only federally chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction training facility in the U.S.<br \/>\n\u201cThis training was incredible,\u201d said Frost, who is one of only three employees at Carson City Hospital who has had this specialized training. \u201cWe learned what to do with situations involving chemicals, biological agents, nuclear agents, and other serious situations. We learned how to triage patients, how to identify different nerve agents, how to properly set up decontamination facilities, and how to make really difficult decisions during crises. We all hope none of these situations ever occur, but if they do, we need to be able to help as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.\u201d<br \/>\nThis hands-on program trains responders to effectively prevent, respond to, and recover from real-world incidents involving acts of terrorism and hazardous materials. Training at the CDP campus is federally funded at no cost to the emergency response professionals or their agencies.<br \/>\n\u201cKelly was sent to this training to advance his capabilities as a member of the CCH decon team,\u201d said CCH Emergency Planning Coordinator Sheri L. Waldron, R.N., B.S.N. \u201cI\u2019m incredibly proud of the commitment he\u2019s shown to this program.
