The contribution provided sponsorship of both the summer slate and the upcoming Saturday classes September 24 and October 8.
Ms Pilmore was the founding member of the Clinton County Arts Council. She served as its director for more than 20 years. Her vision for the Council included a variety of events and activities, most of which came to fruition. She foresaw music in the park, which has become an extremely popular Wednesday event during the summer months. A popularity enhanced by the addition of a beautiful performance shell providing a venue for full sized orchestral presentations.
Another of her visions also involved the park. Early on in her directorship, Ms Pilmore encouraged the establishment of art classes in the park. That schedule continues, but now is conducted at the depot building, ensuring that weather will not dampen the youngsters’ enthusiasm.
Another of Ms Pilmore’s interests was the Art Gallery itself. She worked diligently to open the shop and provide a display source for the works of area and regional artists. Today, the Gallery is recognized by virtually hundreds of artists and artisans from within and without the state of Michigan and is open daily ten months of the year. Current Council Director, Mike Muehlenbeck highlights activities in the Gallery by conducting monthly “Sunday Event” open houses featuring works of selected artists. These gatherings include a reception with refreshments.
Ms Pilmore, who passed away in January 2011, lived long enough to see the realization of most of her vision. The comprehensive line up of events, activities and schedules currently maintained by the Council is, indeed, a tribute to the memory of Kaye Pilmore and her insatiable enthusiasm for all things art and music.
Meanwhile, the children’s art classes are among the activities that inspire remembrance of Ms Pilmore. This series was among her earliest of visions and she would be pleased with its continuance. And continuing, it does, even as this year’s schedule nears it closing. But not before two age groups get their last exposure to the excitement of art.
The two ages are 6 to 9 and 10 to 13. The former will have sessions set for the mornings of Saturday Sept. 24 and Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. The latter will meet the same dates during the hours of 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
All classes will be held at the Depot and conducted by Barb Darling who, along with Kelsey Best, directed classes earlier this summer.
Full registration and information on the series may be obtained at the Arts Council Gallery, 215 N. Clinton Ave., St. Johns. The Gallery is open Tuesday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Gallery is closed on Mondays. Information may also be secured by calling the Gallery at 989 224-2429.

A popular art class program for kids will be repeated this fall when the Clinton County Arts Council schedules a follow-up series.
