The course will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m, September 12, 13, 15 and 20, 2011 at the Senior Center and September 17th from 8:30am -11:30 am at the Sleepy Hollow Conservation Club shooting range. Attendance at all four classes is required to receive a Hunter&#8217;s Safety Card. Classes will be taught by Certified Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Instructors.<br \/>\nSpace is limited so pre-registration is mandatory. Registration deadline is Wednesday, September 7, 2011 or until full. Space is limited.<br \/>\nHunter&#8217;s Safety Training is a program that teaches safety, knowledge and responsibility. The course covers: hunter responsibility and ethics, history of firearms, firearm basics, ammunition, basic gun safety, bow-hunting, conservation and wildlife management, first-aid and other topics.<br \/>\nHunter education is not just for kids and not just for hunters. The program is for all folks who enjoy the outdoors and have an interest in conservation. The course is great as a refresher for veteran hunters. To register, contact the City of St. Johns Recreation Department at 224-8944 ext 227. There is an $8.00 per person charge for the class payable the first night of class.<br \/>\nYoung football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the City of St. Johns Recreation Department hosts the annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Sunday, September 18, 2011.<br \/>\nThe Punt, Pass and Kick competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing and place kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Competition will be held at the Main Softball field located in the City Park starting at 1:30 p.m. and will continue until all contestants have competed. Please arrive 30 min. early to register or register in advance at the City offices. You must provide a copy of the child&#8217;s birth certificate when registering. Contestants must wear tennis shoes, (spikes or bracing on shoes are not allowed in the competition).<br \/>\nThere are separate age groups for girls and boys. Ages 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15. Classifications are based on your age as of December 31, 2010.<br \/>\nThe top finishers from each of ten age groups at the Local Competition will advance to a Sectional Competition held in October. The winners of the Sectional Competition will have their scores compared with other Sectional Champions; the top five scores from the pool of Sectional Champions advance to the to the Team Championship held at Ford Field at the half-time of a Detroit Lions Football game. The top four finishers in the boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; divisions within each age bracket from the pool of all Team Champions will qualify for the National Finals at an NFL playoff game in January.<br \/>\nRegistration forms can be picked up at the City Offices, Briggs Public Library and the City Website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofsaintjohnsmi.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.cityofsaintjohnsmi.com<\/a>.
