\nThe Friends of the Maple River (FOMR) will hold their Bi-Monthly meeting at the Shiatown Park in Shiawassee County on Wednesday September 21st.
\nThe meeting will start at 6:00 PM. Shiatown Park is located on Bennington Road just east of Bancroft Road, approximately 3 miles southeast of Corruna. The Park has Pavilions on the east and west side of the Shiatown dam.
\nAttendees are requested to check each pavilion, as the one to be used for the FOMR meeting cannot be confirmed until the day of the meeting. The FOMR will erect temporary signs to direct attendees to the right pavilion.
\nThe meeting site at the Shiatown Park is located near the southeasterly end of the Maple River watershed. Attendees will have the opportunity to see where the Maple River starts.
\nShiawassee County Drain Commissioner Tony Newman will make a presentation at the meeting about those portions of the Maple River that have been designated as a county drain in Shiawassee County.
\nMr. Gary Fritz who is the Executive Director of the Clinton County Conservation District will present a brief overview of the recent 319 grant award received by the Conservation District. This grant is the first step in implementation of the Upper Maple River Watershed Management Plan that was submitted to and approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
\nTime permitting, there will be a field tour of the Shiatown Dam on the Shiawassee River and also to view the nearby upper reaches of the Maple River. It is suggested that attendees come prepared with the proper footgear and with insect repellent.
\nOn Saturday September 24th,The Friend of The Maple River is sponsoring a group “Quiet Waters” float trip on the Maple River. Anyone who is a kayaker or canoeist is encouraged to join with the Friends of The Maple River for an early fall adventure enjoying the scenic beauty of the river and the wide variety of wildlife.
