Leaves must be in the compostable Kraft brown paper yard waste bags and placed curbside (not in the street) for the daily collection.
The tentative schedule to pick up loose leaves in the City right of way is the week of November 28 thru December 2, 2011 (dependent on the weather). Please do not rake leaves in to the street as they can cover catch basins that may result in street flooding as well as be a hazard for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Mulching leaves with a lawnmower into grassy areas is a great way to naturally fertilize your lawn and an environmentally friendly way to recycle leaves. If you prefer not to mulch or bag your leaves, you may take your loose yard waste to the City’s drop-off sites listed below.
The City appreciates your assistance in its yard waste programs. For updates on the various City programs you may access the City’s website at www.cityofsaintjohnsmi.com, watch the local newspapers and view the City Public Access Channel on your local cable stations (Channel 52 for WBI and channel 99 for Charter).
There are several ways for City residents to get their ten free Kraft bags:
· Print a coupon from the City’s web site at www.cityofsaintjohnsmi.com or
· Cut out the coupon from the St. Johns Reminder or Clinton County News, or
· Go to the following locations during the listed times and fill out a coupon on-site:
The City of St. Johns Department of Public Works, 1000 North US-127 BR 7:30 am-3:30 pm Mon-Fri
You can also pick up your free compost at DPW as supplies last.
Briggs Public Library, 108 East Railroad
9:30 am-8:00 pm Mon-Thru
9:30 am-5:00 pm Fri.
9:30 am-1:00 pm Sat
We Ask That:
¨ For curb side pick up – all leaves to be placed into Kraft paper yard waste bags. The DPW site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please use the Kuntz Drive entrance.
¨ You may use the alternate drop off site at Kinley Road. This site is located just north and east of the US 127 overpass. City staff will have signs directing you to this alternate site. Kinley Road site will be open each day from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm starting October 24, 2011. This site will also have free compost on-site for City residents.
Reminder – Regular Curbside Brush pick up is suspended during leaf collection, but residents may still take their brush to the compost site at the DPW or Kinley road.
If you are a senior or physically challenged and are unable to dispose of your leaves as described above please contact City offices at 224-8944.
The city understands that special allowances may be needed for additional bag requests for areas that have numerous trees in the public Right-Of-Way.
