I choose freedom<\/strong>
\nOne of the principles our government was founded upon is allowing individuals the freedom to make decisions and take risk. I believe there is a direct causal link between the level of freedom a society enjoys and its standard of living. The truth is the greater the level of freedom, the higher the standard of living for its citizens and the wealth of the nation as a whole.
\nExamine the differences between North and South Korea. They share the same culture, language and history. Yet, North Korea is one of the poorest nations on earth and has one of the most restrictive governments, while South Korea is prospering and enjoying a great many personal freedoms. Before the reunification of East and West Germany (again the same language, culture and history), oppressed East Germany was poor and underdeveloped, while West Germany was free to build itself into a thriving, vibrant economy.
\nSome might say that the country’s standard of living is dependent upon its natural resources. If that false belief were actually true then Japan with precious few natural resources would be eternally struggling and Russia with its vast array of natural resources would be near the top.
\nFreedom to innovate and to reap the rewards of taking risk is the key to both the individual’s and a country’s standard of living. The more freedom one enjoys, the more wealth they have the potential to accumulate.
\nAs for me, I will continue to choose and fight for the same beliefs our founding fathers built our great nation upon -personal freedom and a limited constitutional government.
