Maybe it’s considered a nuisance because one or two people have complained, “There’s a traffic problem outside my house.” It’s funny because a lot of people sure enjoy this particular nuisance.
The same thing has happened with burning raked up leaves piles in the fall which caused a few to complain, “The smoke is bothering me, I have allergies,” and of course their complaints were listened to by those in power. Thankfully the attempt to ban family campfires was voted down but we don’t know where that ends.
I’ll bet the neighborhood Mom & Pop stores that used to dot the community back in the forties and fifties would also be banned today because of the traffic problem. “There are all those cars out in the street in front of my house,” people would have probably complained. Eventually those stores disappeared. Somewhat because of the economy and somewhat because of regulations.
These people (complainers) have now gone after the people who smoke tobacco products in public when most of us remember when it was an acceptable and an expected habit. And also they’re going after obese people and users of medicinal marijuana.
They’ve forgotten that Prohibition only increased the sale of alcohol with no liquor tax going to the government.
The government finally said, “Oops.”
Our problem in this country is that we are no longer tolerant of our fellow human beings. I’m not saying being tolerant is easy, but it’s something we should be doing more of as the population of this World keeps growing. If it’s your intentions to correct everybody’s habits, lots of luck and hopefully they don’t turn on you.
For all governments big and small . . . get off the backs of the American people, you’re choking us to death. They should remember, the hands around our throats could someday become the hands around their throats.

* * *

I had nothing to do with the success or failure of the Class of 1962 of RBW but I was one of them and I’m proud to say that. You will be hard pressed to find any mention of me anywhere. We will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our graduation next year and a lot has happened since then. Some of it good, some of it not so good. But it all happened, mostly without our permission.
None of us authorized getting older.
A few of our classmates are no longer with us and I guess that’s to be expected. I think about classmate Rusty Mehney a lot. Death of classmates is not anything we were expecting to hear but that’s what life presents us.
Our last reunion took place at Gary Zell’s home but next year’s reunion could very well be at a golf course out of town like a lot of class reunions choose. I’m not in favor of that but then I was never voted class president and I’ll bet the guy who was will never show up anyway.
All things normal I’ll be there, camera in hand.

* * *

A few thoughts:
The Spartans are regrouping after their loss to Nebraska this past Saturday. The game was closer than the score shows. Nebraska is one of those southern teams that usually beat their opponents 63 to 10.
The Detroit Lions fans breathed a sigh of relief after the Lions dismantled the Denver Broncos in their Mile High Stadium after having lost two lackluster games at home. Both the offense and defense were clicking on all twelve cylinders this time. Yes, there are twelve cylinder engines. Boy do I love it!
They’re going after Herman Cain already. It must mean he poses a threat to somebody. In or outside his party. Sorry about that Herman, politics is a nasty business and you need to be able to fend them off. I will help you if you ask for my opinion but don’t ask for money. I’m a little short (my Dad used to say that all the time but he really was).
We didn’t man the door Halloween night because of Betty’s health so we put a bowl of candy bars out on the front porch and turned the light on. Because there were a few candy bars left meant nobody simply dumped the whole bowl in their bag and went home.
Hats off to our neighborhood ghost and goblins, they were good little buggers.
Until the next time . . .

[9

post-25568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
