Baker offers training for community
\nTuition assistance is available for unemployed or underemployed prospective builders who have interest in becoming a state licensed residential builder.
\nBaker, Business and Corporate Services is offering a Residential Builders and Contractors Prelicensure course beginning on January 23rd. Tuition assistance for those who qualify is currently available through a State Energy Sector Partnership grant.
\nIn support of this green-related initiative, an offering of the State of Michigan’s required 60-hour Prelicensure course is being taught in Owosso. The classes prepare participants for residential builder and contractor positions and enhance knowledge of proper practice and technique.
\nThe Certificate of Completion will entitle successful participants to go forward and take the Residential Builders Exam.
\nThe course will run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. beginning on January 23, 2012 and ending on February 23, 2012. All classes will be held at Baker, Bentley Campus.
\nBaker College will certify that participants have met individual parameters as established by the State of Michigan and will issue a certificate verifying completion. Sessions are facilitated by architect Jed Dingens, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB, the owner of Dingens Architects. Mr. Dingens is an approved instructor by the State of Michigan for this specific course.

Baker College of Owosso is kicking off a brand new year by offering a variety of workshops for businesses and the community in January and February.
\n\u201cIntroduction to Personal Computers\u201d is designed for those who have little or no experience with personal computers and just want to learn the basics. Participants will learn to navigate in Windows Explorer, organize files and folders, search for items on the computer and personalize Windows. This workshop will meet on January 10, 2012 at the Bentley Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
\n\u201cIntroduction to PhotoShop CS5.5\u201d will help you create professional-looking images for both print and the Web. Participants will identify the components of the PhotoShop environment; learn about the differences between raster and vector graphics, and how to use Adobe Bridge. Participants will learn how to work with text, layers, and layer effects; how to adjust, retouch, and resize images; and how to prepare images for printing and the Web. The
\nworkshop will be held on February 3, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Baker College Technical Center for Studies.
\nWorkshops also include a variety of Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 programs to help support your business and home activities ranging from Beginning to Advanced levels. Sessions include Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
