Her parents, Glenn (left) and Terrilynn Voisin attended the regional award presentation along with VFW Mint City 4113 Post Commander, Dr. Keith Mino.<\/em><!--more--><br \/>\nSt. Johns students were honored January 5 at the 2011-12 Voice of Democracy Awards Banquet held at VFW Mint City Post 4113 in St. Johns. The annual event recognizes students in senior and junior divisions for their award-winning essays.<br \/>\nPost Commander Dr. Keith Mino delivered the keynote address that followed dinner and the introduction of guests including VFW 9th District Commander Phil Patterson. Other special guests were St. Johns High School Principal Mark Palmer, SJHS VOD coordinators Dave Stukey and Jake Parker, St. Johns Middle School Principal Scot Henry and SJMS VOD coordinators Jim Makarauskas and Kathy Belles.<br \/>\nPost Trustee Dale Brown served as Master of Ceremonies for the banquet and presented awards to students in both divisions. Post Chaplain Dennis Wright delivered the invocation prior to dinner and the benediction at the conclusion of the evening.<br \/>\nThis year&#8217;s theme for the VOD senior division was &#8220;Is There Pride in Serving in our Military?&#8221; First place winner was Courtney Hartenburg; second place, MaKensie Kentfield; third place, Veronica Hill.<br \/>\nThe Patriot&#8217;s Pen junior division theme was &#8220;Are You Proud of Our Country?&#8221; First place winner was Catherine Voisin; second place, Gwen Gaffney; third place, Suzanna Cockroft; honorable mention: Caleb Trayer, Cassondra Gritsavage, Evan Morrow, Jacob Searles and Kassidy Downing.<br \/>\nFirst through third place winners in both divisions received VOD trophies and award certificates along with U.S. Savings Bonds &#8211; $100, first; $75, second; $50, third. Honorable Mention winners each received a plaque, award certificate and $25.<br \/>\nJudges for both divisions were also recognized: Nancy Mino, Shelly Bessel, Corinna Batora and Christina Klark.
