I would like to make a correction. The unidentified person is Elizabeth Dunay. She was from the Ovid High School. She came over and had catechism with us. The person listed as James Taylor, next to Douglas Ley is Dan Bakita.
1964 Class of RBW and members of St. Joseph Catholic Church
I was reading on the Alward Lake entry too. My husband and I were just talking to some friends about that last weekend so correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it during the mid to late 1960’s when there was a lot of racism going on with the shooting of MLK etc., I seem to remember a car load of black people went to Alward Lake and were turned away. Then the DeYoung’s changed it from public to membership only. A few years after that they closed it.
I really enjoy that Facebook page: You know you grew up in St. Johns if….. Consolidation of
function should always be considered in any enterprise be it public or private in nature for a number of reasons. However any step such as this that will impact all of the residents of the county should be thoroughly researched and evaluated for all potential ramifications and a final decision made only when a high degree of certainty of a positive outcome can be projected.
Due to the retirement of Carol Wooley as the Register of Deeds in 2010 the commissioners decided that they would look into the feasibility of the consolidation prior to the 2012 November election when all of the county
wide offices are up for reelection. Current state law allows for the consolidation or combining of the two positions.
The Clinton County Republican Party at our February monthly meeting heard a presentation from Michelle Wilsey, the current Register of Deeds, who was picked to fill the remainder of Carol Wooley¹s term. She presented her case for retention of the Register of Deeds position based on her perception of the two different job responsibilities and functions of the Register of Deeds and Clerk.
The Clinton County Republican Party Executive Committee members in attendance asked many questions and discussed the potential impact on services to the county’s residents. Concerns were expressed regarding accountability, efficiency, projected cost savings to the county, and the impact on the clerk¹s current job responsibilities in view of the added job functions of the register of deeds.
After evaluating the information it was the unanimous recommendation of the Clinton County Republican Party’s Executive Committee to urge the County Board of Commissioners to not combine the positions of Register of Deeds and the Clerk because of the potential negative effect it could have on the services to the residents of Clinton County.
If you would like to voice your opinion as a resident of Clinton County there will be a public hearing on the issue on March 7, 2012, 7:00 p.m. in the Board of Commissioners Room, County Courthouse, 100 E.
