May 12 St. Johns Community Spray Park fundraiser at Uncle John’s Cider Mill
\nUncle John’s Cider Mill, with community support, is hosting the Inaugural Spray Park Fundraiser entitled, “Go Fly a Kite Day” on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 11 am to 4 pm. The City of St. Johns Parks and Recreation Department is a co-sponsor of the event as are Citizens for a Spray Park Committee and the American Kitefliers Association (AKA).
\n“We’re very pleased to announce that Thor’s Hammer kite, The Blues Brothers and The Bubble Man are coming to our Go Fly a Kite Day,” said Mike Beck, President and Co-owner of Uncle John’s Cider Mill.
\n“Thor’s Hammer kite has a 14 foot wingspan which is the largest two-line stunt kite commercially made. It will be flown to choreographed music, by David Bush of Kalamazoo, MI. We know too that kids love to run through bubbles and we’re delighted to have The Bubble Man coming all day on Saturday, May 12.”
\nThe Blues Brothers Kite Team will also be performing. The Blues Brothers are the current national champions in Masters Pairs Ballet. Also other regional champions such as Dave Gibson and Joe Vernengo will be performing at different times of the day.
\nVisitors will be able to fly a kite (bring or make your own), jump on inflatables, take a wagon ride, ride the pony hops, run through bubbles, enjoy face painting, learn to fly a kite, and more! Visitors who pay $5 (adult free with a paid child) will be able to fly a kite and the other included activities.
\nMake your own Mother’s Day crafts for children will also be available for an additional fee. All admissions will go to help finance the new community spray park at the St. Johns Main Park.
\n“Sparrow Clinton Hospital and the City of St. Johns have formed a great partnership with their generous donation of $15,000 for the Spray Park. We appreciate them for their donation and for giving out free kites to all participants at their May 4th Family Fit Festival, so kids will have free kites for our ‘Go Fly a Kite Day’,” said Bill Schafer, City of St. Johns Recreation Director.
\n“During Mother’s Day Weekend, children need to be with their family, have fun, exercise and enjoy kite flying,” said Suzie Fromson, Co-Chair of Citizens for a Spray Park Committee. “We think doing that at Uncle John’s Cider Mill on “Go Fly a Kite Day” will be a nice family affair, plus raise needed funds for a worthwhile cause, the community Spray Park. Thus far, we have raised $100,000 towards our $400,000 goal.”
