We were served with extreme dignity, compassion, and impeccable detail by the fine people at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home.<br \/>\nDad was a veteran and a long time resident of St. Johns. Upon the procession’s arrival at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing, a large number of uniformed VFW members were ready in formation. When I saw “St. Johns Honor Guard” written on their backs, I was overcome with emotion and gratitude.<br \/>\nThe detachments gun salute, playing of Taps, and flag presentation was nothing short of overwhelming to me.<br \/>\nAfter the graveside service, I was met by four of the men. “Don’t you know us?”, was the question they asked.<br \/>\nIt took me a while to even recognize only one of them (some settling of contents had occurred). They were Tom Helms, Mitch Louth, Roy Pline and Gary Price. I can hardly express the warmth and great feelings we shared. Not only was my Dad now home with the Lord; I was home again with some friends from the class of ’66.<br \/>\nThe Honor Guard did just what their name says. They bestowed honor.<br \/>\nI will never forget my dad and how moved my family was by the actions of the Honor Guard. May all Americans never forget the sacrifices of their veterans. May St. Johns continue to support their VFW post.<br \/>\nMost Sincerely,<br \/>\nWayne E. King<br \/>\nson of Earl W.
