So when construction starts in June, she will be helping build her home alongside other Habitat for Humanity volunteers. As a Habitat partner family, Kirsten is required to put in 250 hours of “sweat equity” and she has already begun her hours by volunteering time at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 2352 N. US 27 in St. Johns. Kirsten is employed at Ovid Healthcare.
The home being built in St. Johns this summer will be Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County’s seventh home building project since it began in 2000 and the first to be built in St. Johns. The home will be built with volunteer labor, gifts in kind and monetary donations.
Sponsors for this home are First United Methodist Church of St. Johns, who is in their second consecutive year of Apostle sponsorship to Habitat, along with groups from the City of St. Johns, the St. Johns Kiwanis Club, the St. Johns Rotary Club and Turning Point Youth Center, who will each be adopting one day on the build site.
According to Michelle Smith, president of Habitat for Humanity, the organization is seeking additional church sponsors as well as business groups and individual donations to complete the funding for this home. Checks may be sent to Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County, PO Box 313, St. Johns, MI 48879. Habitat is a 501 (c) (3) and all donations are tax deductible. Churches interested in becoming Apostle sponsors or business groups wishing to adopt a day on site may contact Sue Carroll, the organization’s executive director at 989 227-1771.

Kirsten Morence, Habitat’s newest home ownership partner, is surrounded by her children (l-r), Brooklyn, Scarlet and Jack.

[9

post-28808","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
