\nTwo bikes donated by Turning Point Youth Center were awarded last Friday during SJPD’s annual bicycle rodeo. Ella Schafer won the girl’s bike, and Bryson Martinez won the boy’s bike. Both students are Kindergarteners at St. Joseph Elementary.<\/em>
\nOn Friday May 18, 2012 the St. Johns Police Department held a bicycle rodeo at Oakview South Elementary School. Fifty kids from Kindergarten through 3rd grade from the St. Johns School District participated and had a great time.
\nEach student had their bicycle licensed and received instructions on safe riding habits. All the bicycles received a safety inspection from D&K Bike service. Hot dogs, popcorn, juice, and cookies were available for whoever was hungry or thirsty. Each participant also received a free bicycle helmet provided by Clinton County Safe Kids and Sparrow Clinton Hospital.
\nA drawing for two new bicycles, which were donated by Turning Point Youth Center was held. Ella Schafer won the girl’s bike and Bryson Martinez won the boy’s bike. Both students are in Kindergarten at St. Joseph Elementary.
\nAll of this could not have been accomplished without the generosity of those who helped and donated for this event.
\nA special thank you goes to the following:
\n– Deputy Sharon Worthington for assistance in the classroom;
\n– Clinton County Safe Kids for donating and fitting the helmets;
\n– Turning Point Youth Center for donating the bicycles;
\n– St. Johns Kiwanis for cooking and serving the hot dogs;
\n– St. Johns Big Boy for donating of hot dogs, buns, condiments and coffee;
\n– McDonalds of St. Johns for orange drink, paper products and cookies;
\n– D&K Bike Service for inspecting and repairing the bicycles; and the
\n– St. Johns Fire Department for the popcorn and bringing trucks out for the kids to explore.
