What brought that on? The PBS show about Johnny Carson. I missed the show’s original broadcast but was able to catch a re-broadcast of it on the internet. Carson was an American classic.
Jimmy Fallon is too juvenile for me. I fast forward through most of his silly games and skits. The “Wheel of Carpets”, “Shout Outs”, “Wax On, Wax Off”, “Late Night Perm Week”, “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Pie, and almost all the others. The only skit I really like is, “Slow Jamming the News” with Brian Williams. I can watch the meat of Fallon’s show in about 15 minutes.
Craig Ferguson is over in Scotland where he grew up but his on the road shows tend to be a bit boring otherwise I like him.
Conan O’Brian is just too weird for me.
Jay Leno still hasn’t gotten over the fact that he’s not Johnny Carson. I do like the skits on his show though.
Dave Letterman is the funniest of the five and the better interviewer but he’s working for the Committee to re-elect Barack Oblama right now. Night after night after night he hammers away at Mitt Romney. It’s almost as if he gave his writers the rest of the year off. He makes fun of Romney being worth 250 million dollars when Letterman purportedly is worth 400 million. It gets tiresome after a while. I’m disappointed in ol’ Dave. He’s turned out to be a big behind kisser (Oblama’s). That’s the politically correct way of saying . . . oops, never mind.
I think I’ll fast forward his monologue every night until after the elections in November. By then maybe his sanity will return.
Is there another Johnny Carson out there? I sure wish there was. At his peak he was drawing a bigger TV audience than Letterman and Leno combined. It takes talent and special person to do that.

* * *

I’m constantly being challenged by the electronic junk I buy. This time it’s our indoor/outdoor thermometer. We have two indoor units and one outside transmitter. The indoor units started beeping every few minutes constantly. It drove us nuts. There wasn’t anything in the manual to tell us why or what to do about it. I got on the internet and asked about the problem. The first thing I read was that it’s a flaw in the units and there wasn’t anything I could do about it. The second bit of information told me it’s because it’s receiving other wireless signals such as a wireless computer router which we have plus the neighbors on either side of us. They said to open the back and snip the black wire to the speaker. The speaker is for the alarm that we have no use for anyway.
I snipped the wire on the older unit and waited to see what happened. Everything worked just fine except the unit was now mute. I did the same thing to the newer unit and we’ve finally have our peace and quiet back.

* * *

We planted our garden last Saturday, such as it is. We cut back quite a lot but we have two rows of green beans, two rows of tomato plants made up of Heirloom tomatoes, some Mountain Prides, and two Grape tomato plants. Six pepper plants filled out the last row. It beats the hell out of last year. Because of Betty’s illness we only had the garden worked up but I did plant some cucumbers late in June which yielded a total of six cucumbers.
Our daughter, Kristy and her husband will use the remaining garden space to plant some tomatoes and green beans. Don’t tell them but I might sneak some of their produce too!

* * *

Short Thoughts:
How many times has Beetle Bailey been beat up by Sarge over the years?
I’ve always been fascinated by this saying, Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions; your old men will dream dreams. Turns out it’s part of a verse in the Bible, Acts 2:17. The one I really relate to anymore is, “Your old men will dream dreams.” Boy do I ever.
You can’t tell me it isn’t “price gouging” when the price of gas on a holiday weekend goes up, and the price of a barrel of oil has been going down.
Until the next time . . .

[9

post-29061","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
