“Mostly Movies” June 27\nLights! Camera! . . . and the action begins with the Singers on The Grand performing “Mostly Movies” June 27 at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell as part of the weekly Concert in the Park summer music series. Show time is 7 p.m. at the beautiful outdoor venue; no admission charge.
\nGreat music of the silver screen from the 1930s to the present will be performed by the 12-member vocal choral that also features solo and duet selections. The group is accompanied by the talented seven-piece “Grand Band.” Classically trained dancers, Chloe Gonzales and Michael Chan, join the chorale for this special show.
\nThe production offers a marvelous variety of songs including “Laura,” “As Time Goes By,” “Singing in The Rain,” “Steam Heat,” “I Got Rhythm,” “A Wink and a Smile,” “My Heart Will Go On” and many other film favorites.
\nThis is the 14th season for Singers on The Grand under the direction of the group’s founder, Libby Brandon, and her daughter, Katy McDonough, choral director.
\n“This is a heart-warming show that’s filled with joy, sweet memories and fun,” Brandon says. “Especially charming is ballerina Chloe Gonzales and Michael Chan as they dance to the classic, “Laura”. It’s my
\nprivilege to showcase all of these area artists who interpret the music of the movies and our lives so well.”
\nVocalists include Bill Atkin, Bill DeWitt, Barbara Frazier, James Hall, Ellen Hoard, Kathleen Leyrer, Charlie Martin, Katy McDonough, Kelly Sandula-Gruner, Rachel Schroeder, Dave Sincox, and Dan Templin. The Grand Band instrumentalists include Herm Bushnell, Bob Engardio, Don Farnum, Bill Holda, Jim Kasprzak, Pete Murthum, and Rick Peterson.
\nConcert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, Sirrine & Associates, Inc., is being recognized at the June 27 concert for its financial support of CCAC and the summer music series.
\nConcerts are held each Wednesday evening, beginning at 7 p.m., in the St. Johns City Park. The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand that offers light refreshments. All concerts are held rain or shine.
