Mr. Leonard, 31, of Dewitt Twp. received 24% of the votes cast by attendees of the Clinton County TEA Party Patriots candidate forum.<br \/>\n\u201cI have championed fiscal responsibility and limited government my entire adult life,&#8221; said Leonard. \u201cWhile the only poll that matters is on August 7th, I am very pleased that so many people involved with this local Tea Party agree I am the best candidate to represent our values in the legislature.\u201d<br \/>\nThe forum was held Tuesday night in St. Johns and featured all four candidates competing for the GOP nomination in Michigan\u2019s 93rd House District: Tom Leonard, Michael Trebesh, Kevin Kirk, and Jeremiah Napier.<br \/>\nThe forum was positive and informative for all of those involved. Candidates primarily discussed their own biographies and all agreed on most traditional Republican political positions.<br \/>\nThe two most striking differences between the candidates were seen in the candidate questionnaire each filled out prior to the debate. Each candidate was able to respond only with a simple yes\/no to the questions.<br \/>\nWhile all agreed on the issues of a part time legislature, right-to-work, and H.B. 5768 (all \u201cyes\u201d); Trebesh and Napier marked \u201cyes\u201d to supporting medical Marijuana while Leonard and Kirk marked \u201cno.\u201d Only Trebesh marked \u201cyes\u201d to amending Michigan\u2019s Constitution to allow for additional casinos.<br \/>\nThe 93rd State House District is currently represented by term-limited Paul Opsommer (R-DeWitt).
