The new hours are from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., which means the start time is now ½ hour later than in past years.
The Commission is confident this will still leave plenty of time for ghouls and goblins to fill up their Halloween bags with treats. If you’re out on the road during this time please be very careful of little ones in costume as their vision is often limited by scary masks and floppy hats.
Rules Regarding Backyard Recreational Fires Changed: The City Commission passed on October 8th a Fire Prevention Ordinance directed mainly at updating regulations and restrictions governing outdoor recreational fires. The burning of leaves, trash and other combustibles remains strictly prohibited in the City. However recreational fires have traditionally been permitted and will continue to be under the new ordinance. The updated rules include but are not limited to the following:
1) recreational fires must be confined to a fire pit or other receptacle no larger than three feet in diameter.
2) Only natural cut wood or small brush can be used as a fire source.
3) All recreational fires must be attended at all times and a source of extinguishment must be readily available.
4) Any recreational fire must be at least 15 feet from structures or other combustible material. The St. Johns Police or Fire Department can order extinguishment of recreational fires if any regulation is violated or the fire otherwise presents a potential safety hazard. All City ordinances can be reviewed on the City’s website: http://www.cityofsaintjohnsmi.com. Paper copies of individual ordinances can be obtained at the City Offices.
Hospital Site Plan Approved: The Sparrow-Clinton developmental site plan related to the facility’s proposed expansion was reviewed and approved by the City Planning Commission and the St. Johns City Commission. The hospital’s significant renovations will include an Emergency Department addition, changes to the ambulance and patient drop-off sites for emergency room services and upgraded hospital parking south of the facility. This expansion will allow the hospital to better serve the residents of Clinton County. We appreciate Sparrow-Clinton’s continuing commitment to our community.
Community Health Award: The City was recently presented with the 2011 Water Fluoridation Quality Award by the Michigan Department of Community Health for maintaining optimal levels of fluoride in its public water system. Fluoride has been proven to promote good dental health and has been heralded by the U.S. Center for Disease Control as one of the “10 great public health achievements of the 20th century”. We are one of only 80 communities in Michigan to receive this award for 2011.
City Water Supporting Expansion In Bingham Township: Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers and the City of St. Johns finalized an agreement where the city is now selling City water to the new commercial site in Bingham Township. The water extension infrastructure has not been installed at this time, but will begin when that construction phase is determined. The MDEQ (Michigan Department of Environmental Quality) has just recently approved the City’s water system extension to the new development and the developer will be responsible for the entire cost of the extension.
The City of St Johns and Bingham Township worked jointly on this project to accommodate this exciting development in our community.

[22

post-31218","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-city
["GET
