On US 27
\nRep. Paul Opsommer is pleased that MDOT will work with local officials to increase safety and improve mobility along the Old US-27 corridor in DeWitt Township. The plan includes a speed limit correction, a road safety audit, and a traffic signal study at Webb Road and Old US-27.
\n“This corridor has long been an issue in Clinton County,” stated Opsommer, R-DeWitt. “Our constituents consistently call on matters related to speed and accidents on this stretch of road. It is a step in the right direction for MDOT to listen to local officials and have a strategy for improving safety.”
\nThe initiatives put forth will include:
\n– Speed limit correction. Speed studies jointly conducted by MDOT and the Michigan State Police indicate that correction is needed for the posted speed limit along the corridor. This correction is estimated to occur in January 2013.
\n– Road safety audit. This audit, to be conducted by independent transportation officials, including law enforcement, will involve identifying safety measures along the entire route. Estimated completion of the audit is February 2013.
\n– Traffic signal study at Webb Road and Old US-27. Another signal study will be conducted at this location to determine if a full traffic signal is needed. Estimated completion of the study is April 2013.
