I had to prepare for the Lions game the next day with the Packers. I practiced yelling, screaming, hollering, coaching, cussing, getting a few more bad words from my cuss book that’s stored on the tall shelf where the grandkids can’t get at it, and swear some more. I throw myself on the floor, kick my feet, get back up and swear again.

* * *

In the old days they used to put a light bulb in the sock and repair the hole by darning it. Nowadays just about everything is a throw way.
That’s why we don’t see TV repair shops anymore, we just throw them out.

* * *

I’m waiting for spring realizing that I have to walk a thousand more steps in the snow and icy pathways and will still have those days when I’ll proclaim that it’ll take a warm day in Hell before I warm up again because it’s so damned cold outside and that’s been the reality most of the time.
Spring is coming soon and that’s when things renew themselves. The trees will leaf out, the grass will grow again, the flowers will bloom, our garden will sprout, my arthritis will take a vacation and I’ll get a temporary reprieve to do the things I like to do again.

* * *

If you’re walking on ice do yourself a favor, don’t put your hands in your pockets. You may need them in a hurry.

* * *

You know you’re getting old when you don’t recognize the host of Saturday Night Live.

* * *

Some people get to swim downstream and others have to swim upstream. Even though it isn’t fair, that’s life. Get used to it.

* * *

I had a good week. My desktop is up and running, my camera still works, and the food around here is still pretty damn good.

* * *

I climbed to the top of the sledding hill at City Park for the same reason people climb mountains, because it’s there.

* * *

I think a least three of the Republican candidates running for president should be given a loaded gun so they can shoot themselves in the foot and get it over with once and for all.

* * *

I’m a lucky father. We raised our three daughters to go out into the World, take care of themselves, and make a difference if they can. They’ve done that and more. On the other hand, my Dad told me, “See ya later, Bub,” and left town. That’s what he used to call me and that’s basically what he said to me. My family life was over at age eleven and I cried like a baby at the old Courthouse when I learned that, but a few years later I was able to begin again and take back what belonged to me.

* * *

I took over 13,000 pictures on my last camera before the on/off switch went to hell and I probably have a least half that many on my new one.

* * *

Can you haul a travel trailer with an electric vehicle?

* * *

Having a need to get some dental work done along with a desire to further my education in dentistry, I made an appointment which happened to be the very next day. Not much time to prepare mentally. Naybe it’s better because I hate going to the dentist.

* * *

A bald man without a hat on is the first one to know when it starts raining.

* * *

It used to be that live and let live was a good motto. Now we find more and more people having a problem with some of us or at the extreme, all of us. How can you possibly get along in life that way?

* * *

I’ve been around long enough to know that once a bad idea is born you can’t get rid of it and the problem it creates only gets worse. This is the same thing that’s happened with Facebook posters. One day there’s one on your wall and the next day there’s thirty of them.

* * *

How many times has Beetle Bailey been beat up by Sarge over the years?

* * *

How many ways are there to lose a ballgame? The Detroit Tigers are trying to answer that question for us. Gees guys, we didn’t really need to know.

* * *

Keith Mino is pleased to say that he wasn’t born in St. Johns but he got here as soon as he could. Me, I was dragged into St. Johns kicking and screaming, but I’ve settled down a bit since.

* * *

People ask me what I think of Rap music. Well actually they don’t; but if they did, I already have an answer for them. I’d rather watch a bank commercial.

* * *

Don’t let the bias mainstream news media (NBC, CBS and ABC) elect your next president for you.

* * *

The once mighty Penn State has been brought down by its own people who knew a crime was committed on their campus but lacked enough character to do something about it.

* * *

I ordered a new camera this week. No, my other one isn’t broken; the new one is an upgrade.

* * *

It’s been a year since Betty’s near death experience in the hospital but thankfully the next hospital they sent her to had a radiologist who saved her life. Even though I don’t consider myself religious I’m still able to use the word, thankfully. It’s not religiously oriented. It can be used by any human being.

* * *

I’m glad the Mint Festival is over with. The handicap parking was out on the south forty. I turned down rides on a golf cart because I needed to get pictures along the way to the Performance Shell which by the time I got there was unoccupied. Time to go back so I asked one of the local police officers to arrest me and give me a ride back to my truck. I had enough walking already. I liked it better back when it was around the courthouse lawn. It was old man friendly.

* * *

Whatever happened to the Welcome Wagon that used to greet new homeowners with a basket of goodies?

* * *

Politicians say the damndest things. Where is Art Linkletter when we need him?

* * *

Bill Maher was on the Tonight Show last night. I still can’t stand the man.

* * *

The first time I became aware of a presidential convention was in 1956. Eisenhower was running for a second term as president. The convention was held in August while we were on vacation at Crystal Lake. We had a black and white small screen TV and if it got more than two channels we were lucky. It may have been that we were watching the convention whether we wanted to or not.

* * *

I was reading the book, “The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla,” until my brain started swelling trying to absorb all that high-tech stuff so I took a break and now I’m on my third David Baldacci book since then, “The Winner.” I’ll get back to Nikola as soon as my head stops hurting.

* * *

I didn’t watch either the Republican Convention or the Democratic Convention. Too much BS for me.

* * *

We have an ice maker and lately it’s been making hollow ice cubes. From what I read about it the problem was not enough water flow so I went downstairs to the darkroom and turned the feed line valve a quarter of a turn to see if that helped. It did but the damned thing started leaking. Even when I shut it completely off it still leaked. It’s typical for water valves to do that. Once you disturb them be prepare for problems.

* * *

I’ve come to realize that if I drop a book or a newspaper, I just pick it back up and continue reading. That probably won’t happen with my Kindle Fire. It has breakable parts in it. The repair could cost as much as buying a new one.

* * *

This year Betty is back to her old self and busy as ever and we’re doing some things in the backyard again. There’s a lot to be done, but with me it’s one thing at a time.

* * *

Alex Karras passed away. He was a defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions from 1958 to 1970. I remember him standing on the field with his head hanging down right after Tom Dempsey, New Orleans kicker, kicked that famous sixty-three yard field goal against them to win the game. He also played Mongo in the movie, “Blazing Saddles.” We’re going to miss that old fart.

* * *

Lava soap is too hard; Dial soap is too soft, Irish Spring soap is just right. This message brought to you by the Goldilocks Soap Council.

* * *

Why do doctors keep records? Every time I go to an appointment I have to tell them what prescriptions I’m on and fill out their questionnaires that ask the same questions as the last questionnaire.

* * *

Betty’s been buying extra food to give to the local food bank. Seems like a good time of the year to be doing that.

* * *

Poor Detroit Lions, they’ve fallen flat on their face. They find a different way to lose every week and a different player to do the dastardly deed. The curse of Bobby Layne still hangs in there, and it may never end for us fans.

[9

post-32535","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
