We’ve been deficit spending for too many years now and nobody knows whether we are spending our great grandchildren’s money or whether it goes further than that.
There’s a model for where we’re heading and it’s some of those countries in Europe who’ve been doing the same thing for years and have found themselves going broke. Other European countries are trying to bail them out while the citizens of those countries riot in the streets over proposed cuts. The number one mentioned country is Greece and Greeks don’t want to make the sacrifices it takes to make their country fiscally sound again. We can see what’s going to happen to us and yet we’re doing nothing to stop it. We can’t even get a 1% cut of the budget across the board from the government because they know we’ll turn them out of office if they do. We are all in on this and we’re all responsible.
Can it get anymore nuttier than that? I don’t think so, Gram.

* * *

I haven’t had an eye exam for at least ten years and at my age that’s not the smartest thing to do. My last pair of glasses cost a lot of money so I was happy I saved a lot over that time. I have no problem reading the newspaper without glasses but I noticed other things changing. It got to the point last summer where I couldn’t recognize people in Wal-Mart until they walked by me. Then I thought our TVs were going to hell but it turned out it was me, I’m going to hell. Time to make an appointment.
I learned two things, I still have cataracts that are slowly getting worse and I probably shouldn’t be driving at night without glasses. The doctor wrote me a new prescription and I ordered just a basic pair of glasses with no bifocals. When I got them I couldn’t believe how much I could see!
I took my old expensive glasses to the office to have new lenses put in them plus bifocals. It’s impossible to read a newspaper with lenses corrected for distance. The reason why I didn’t take them in originally was that I thought they were a pair that had holes drilled into the bows to accommodate side shields required by work. The bows would have a short life if they had holes in them. Turns out they didn’t.

* * *

I’m on Linkedin which is a site for professional people. I guess I’m considered professional because of my connection with the St. Johns Independent. I’m still arguing with myself as to whether I should be on there or not. I really don’t feel like a professional as much as I feel that I’m just a contributor to an internet news source that covers St. Johns and its surrounding communities. I’m very much into photos, old and new, and believe me, I’ve tried to cover everything at least once. I’ve been to Fowler, Maple Rapids, Ovid, Elsie, and DeWitt to cover their events. Maybe it’s time to make the tour again. One thing people seem to like is photos and I sure can help them out there.

* * *

And Furthermore:
Should we just go ahead and make Obama king for life and save all the trouble? There’s already talk about repealing the 22nd Amendment that limits presidents to two terms.
Why does Charlie Sheen’s appearance on Dave Letterman’s and Jimmy Fallon’s shows remind me of Michael J. Fox? Is there something else behind Sheen’s meltdown besides drugs?
One of my favorite radio shows is “Bob & Tom” and it’s on an FM station in the morning. They have numerous comedians on their show as guest and it’s almost a laugh every minute. We need a lot of laughter to balance real life happenings.
Manti Teo, Notre Dame linebacker, would be a perfect fit to go along with the other misfits the Detroit Lions have been drafting lately.
I’ve recently purchased two booklets and one book from the PGS Museum. The booklets are titled: “The Old Machine Shop” and “Pouring Iron in St. Johns,” were written by Ron Matson. The book, “Clinton County, Michigan, A History Told Through Postcards,” was written by Myrna VanEpps and Wayne Summers. All three are available from PGS Museum and the Clinton County Historical Society. The PGS Museum is currently closed for the winter.
We have gained 21 minutes of daylight since January 1st. For those of you who have struggled with winter, hang in there.
Until the next time . . .

[9

post-32901","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
