There is always some kind of game going on like Euchre, Canasta, Skip Bo or Dominoes. Or you can test out the exercise equipment, read some of the books or magazines in the library, work on a puzzle or just sit and talk with someone. You can also get your lunchtime meal at the center.
\nOn Mondays you get a choice of a full meal ($5), soup ($2) or sandwich and chips ($3) and there is always homemade pie ($1.50), and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday there is one meal option ($3).
\nIf you are a Euchre player tournaments are played on the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 6:30 – 8:30 pm ($2 entry) and on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Mondays from 1:00 – 3:00 pm ($1 if you eat lunch at the center, $2 if you do not). And of course it wouldn’t be a Senior Center without Bingo – you can play Bingo on Tuesday and Friday at 12:30 for $1.
\nIn addition to what the Senior Center has to offer to senior citizens it has other things to offer to a wider population. Inside the center is a Gift Shop – everyone is invited to come and shop. There is everything from stuffed animals and nic nacs to decorations, doilies, quilts and more. The Gift Shop is open the same hours of the center.
\nThe Senior Center is also available to rent. Whether you are having a reunion, birthday party or graduation, you should consider the center. Rental rates range from $100 to $150 per day and can include the use of a full kitchen or not. Stop in or call Paula at 989-224-4257 for an appointment to get a tour of the facility.
\nDonations Always Accepted<\/em><\/strong>: The Senior Center does not receive any government funding – all the money needed to operate the center is raised by the Board of Directors and volunteers. If you would like to donate anything for the center to sell or use as Bingo prizes, drop off the items at the center, or call Board Member Darlene Terpening at 989-224-6605.
\nIn addition to nic nacs, glass wear, books, puzzles, stuffed animals, household items, etc, the center accepts donations of yarn and fabric (cotton or flannel preferred). The yarn and fabric is given to volunteers that make items the center can sell in the Gift Shop or at Craft Shows. The Senior Center also accepts donations of baking supplies they can pass on to their volunteers for bake sales (Bake Sales are held at Kroger’s one Saturday each month). Things like flour, sugar, chocolate chips, shortening, raisins and walnuts are always needed – please call Board Member Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248 to find out where to drop off those donations.
\nIf you are into fun and just want to check things out at the center stop in anytime – or if you are looking for something special, Friday, March 15 would be a great day. A fun part of the day will be a spirited auction at 11:00 am (items up for bid include a homemade quilt, an antique doll, antique cut glass items, mirror and much more). Lunch will be at noon with bingo following. If you would like to reserve a spot, call Paula Wilbourn at 989-224-4257.
\nThe Clinton County Senior Center is located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns (corner of Spring and Walker Streets – one block north of M21) and their hours are 9 am to 3 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
