In the mid-1990’s, Graham County Sheriff Mack felt that it was not required of county sheriffs to enforce certain provisions of the federal Brady Bill gun control legislation.<br \/>\nIn the end the Supreme Court agreed with him and ruled in Mack’s favor. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia stated “The Federal Government may neither issue directives requiring the States to address particular problems, nor command the States’ officers, or those of their political subdivisions, to administer or enforce a federal regulatory program.” The landmark ruling was an acknowledgement of state’s rights, and the power of the county sheriff.<br \/>\nRichard Mack will be speaking on the evening of April 11th at the Lincoln Day Dinner, held at the Eagle Eye Golf Club, 15101 Chandler Rd., East Lansing, and on the evening of April 12th at the Wilson Center, 101 W.
