{"id":34530,"date":"2013-05-02T20:56:49","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T00:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/?p=34530"},"modified":"2013-05-02T20:56:49","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T00:56:49","slug":"habitat-55","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/archive1\/habitat-55\/","title":{"rendered":"Habitat names Volunteer of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/13may\/boyerth.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"alignleft size-full\" \/>Jerry Boyer<!--more--><br \/>\nA man involved in construction &#8220;ever since he was old enough to hold a hammer&#8221; is Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County&#8217;s Volunteer of the Year.<br \/>\nJerry Boyer of Bath has been been instrumental in every construction project Habitat has undertaken since 2009, explains Sue Carroll, Habitat&#8217;s executive director.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/13may\/boyer.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" \/><em>Jerry Boyer and his wife, Sue<\/em><br \/>\nThe son of a general contractor, Jerry developed a fondness for construction as a child. After retiring as a toolmaker with General Motors for 38 years, he knew he wanted to stay active. He formed a mission team at his church, Bath United Methodist, organizing teams to travel to New Orleans to help victims of Hurricane Katrina for five years.<br \/>\nCloser to home, he&#8217;s given countless hours to Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County. For each home we&#8217;ve built, Jerry&#8217;s put in more than 150 hours of time, explains Sue Carroll.<br \/>\n&#8220;As crew leader for interior carpentry work, Jerry puts his excellent skills to work in each project he touches&#8221;, explains Sue Carroll. &#8220;When Jerry&#8217;s on the job, closets end up with beautiful shelving, windows end up with wooden sills.&#8221;<br \/>\nOn Tuesdays, Jerry devotes his time to the Tuesday Toolmen, a group dedicated to helping with home repair projects and building wheelchair ramps for those in need. Jerry&#8217;s also helped with every wheelchair ramp built by Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County.<br \/>\nWhen describing why he gives so much of his time helping others, Jerry said, &#8220;When we completed a wheelchair ramp for a disabled gentleman and he told us, &#8216;now I can go to church on Sunday,&#8217; that&#8217;s what makes it all worthwhile.&#8221;<br \/>\nJerry is married to Sue Boyer, a retired school teacher.
