Support Your School’s Art Programs
\nThe Clinton County Arts Council is sponsoring the 2013 Art Challenge, an art competition open to all middle schools in Clinton County. Schools choosing to participate this year include Bath, DeWitt, Fowler and Ovid-Elsie. Students from each school created a banner depicting their “Superhero(s).”
\nThe banners will be displayed at the following county festivals this summer:
\nJuly 13 – Elsie Dairy Festival 2013 (www.elsiedairyfest.com<\/a>)
\nJuly 19 – DeWitt Township’s Meadows Celebration (www.meadowscelebration.blogspot.com<\/a>)
\nAug. 3 – Bath Days Festival (www.bathdays.com<\/a>)
\nAug. 11, 12 – 2013 St. Johns Mint Festival (www.clintoncountychamber.org\/mint-festival<\/a>)
\nDuring each festival the public will be invited to vote for a favorite. The school receiving the most votes – accumulated throughout all four festivals – will be recognized with the “People’s Choice Award.” This and other awards, based on each banner’s content and design, will total over $850.00 which will be designated to the schools’ art programs.
\nFunding for the Art Challenge competition is made possible from a grant through the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, as well as support from local businesses, organizations and Arts Council members.
\nThe Clinton County Arts Council, based in St. Johns, has supported the arts in mid-Michigan since 1981. The council maintains an art gallery, a railroad museum complete with actual antique railroad cars, a theater production company, summertime concerts in the park and a community choral group.
\nDeborah Laverty, coordinator of the middle school Art Challenge, encouraged everyone to attend the festivals and cast a vote for a favorite banner. “It’s a perfect way to enjoy the spirit of community while lending support to budding artists throughout our county,” she said.
