Good candidates for Habitat homes include low income families who currently do not own their own home, families who are living in a substandard home or a home that is too small, or who have been unable to qualify for a traditional home loan.<br \/>\nHabitat for Humanity&#8217;s overarching mission is to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live, by giving families a &#8220;hand UP,&#8221; not a handout. Habitat accomplishes that goal by assisting lower income families make a transformative step from renting to owning their own home.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/13july\/habitat3.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" \/><em>Chad Anderson and his daughters, Tiffany and Brianna, moved into their Habitat home in Maple Rapids in July 2013.<\/em><br \/>\nQualified Habitat families must have lived in Clinton County for at least a year and have a good track record of paying their bills. Selected homeowners participate fully in the construction of a new house or rehab of an existing home, and must be willing to provide significant &#8220;sweat equity&#8221; toward that goal. Habitat families then purchase their home with a special low interest loan.<br \/>\nAll over the world, and in our own community, there is a desperate need for decent, affordable housing. Helping provide that housing creates positive and lasting family and community impacts. Decent housing improves household health and well-being, leading to more time on the job and in school. This contributes to improved family income and education &#8211; both of which are essential to breaking the cycle of poverty.<br \/>\nLow income families with a fair to excellent track record of paying their bills should consider applying. Habitat for Humanity undertakes a financial review of applicants to confirm ability to pay and works closely with the family to ensure homeowner success.<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;ve never thought homeownership was possible, think again.
