The lively, energetic music begins at 7 p.m. at the weekly Concert in the Park series. There is no admission charge.<br \/>\nThe all-volunteer brass and percussion ensemble that&#8217;s inspired by traditional, British-style brass bands was organized in 2001. Players come from across mid-Michigan and represent a cross-section of the community at large.<br \/>\nThe band began competing in 2011 at the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) championships in Grand Rapids, capturing the Third Section title. Since that time, the band has expanded its competition schedule by attending the 2012 US Open Brass Band championships in Chicago and returning to NABBA in 2013, winning the 10-Piece brass band section.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/13august\/brass.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"image\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" \/><br \/>\nMembers of the band are active participants in their instrument&#8217;s professional organizations and regularly participate in competitions. Recent successes include a 2011 NABBA low-brass slow melody winner and 2012 NABBA low-brass slow melody third place.<br \/>\nWilliam Waterman is the band&#8217;s musical director and conductor. He currently serves on the faculty at Jackson College, the Flint Institute of Performing Arts and with the Blue Fine Arts Camp.
