Kieffer, Sr.<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Norval H. &#8220;Pete&#8221; Vallance<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/vallance_norval.jpg\" HSPACE=\"8\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Norval H. &#8220;Pete&#8221; Vallance, age 86, of St. Johns, MI died Saturday August 17, 2013 at Sparrow Health Systems Lansing, MI.<br \/>\nA Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Eureka Cemetery on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.<br \/>\nPete was born in Lansing, Michigan on May 8, 1927, the son of Roland and Beatrice (Jacobs) Vallance. He married Rose E. Wheeler on June 22, 1959 in Angola, IN. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2012 after nearly 62 years of marriage. Pete served his country in the US Army as a SSG. He was drafted on September 19, 1945 and discharged from active duty on September 15, 1952. During that time, he was a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division. He worked at General Motors, and retired in 1983. Pete was a member of the American Legion Post #153 in St. Johns and Voiture 40 et 8.<br \/>\nHe is survived by daughter Sherry and Ron Epps of St. Johns, MI, daughter Lola and Quent Scannell of Highland Township, MI, son Gary and Amy Vallance of St. Johns, MI, daughter JoAnn and Lee Esch of Oakman, AL, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, sister Joyce Smith of Grand Rapids, MI, and sister in law Dorothy Vallance of Harrison, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters; Gloria Morris and Betty Prebble, 2 brothers; Wayne Jack Vallance and Robert Vallance; and brother in law Chuck Smith.<br \/>\nMemorials may be made to The Kidney Foundation. The family is being served by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smith Family Funeral Homes<\/a> St. Johns, Michigan.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Walter L. Kieffer, Sr.<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/kieffer_walter.jpg\" HSPACE=\"8\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Walter L. Kieffer, Sr., age 85, of St. Johns, MI died Saturday, August 17th, 2013 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor in St. Johns, MI.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Wednesday, August 21st at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Tyler Barledge will officiate, and burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.<br \/>\nWalter was born in St. Johns, Michigan on February 14, 1928, the son of Howard Lewis and Florence Louise (Hopkins) Kieffer. He attended St. Johns Schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Deloris Lorraine (Perry) Kieffer on April 21, 1973 in Ionia, MI. She passed away September 2, 2003. Walter was a lifelong resident of St. Johns. He enjoyed fishing, music, collecting model cars, radios and watches. Walter also enjoyed going to breakfast with his brother and son in law. He retired from General Motors in 1991, and was a member of St. Johns American Legion Post #153 .<br \/>\nHe is survived by a daughter Diane and Jim Bernum; son Walter Jr. and Sue Kieffer of Pewamo, MI; son John Kieffer of St. Johns, MI; son Michael Kieffer of Georgia; daughter Dorene Kieffer of Big Rapids, MI; daughter Caroline and Michael Smith of Cadillac, MI; daughter in law Sandy Kieffer of Howard City, MI; 6 step children Jeffery and Tammy Rings of Clare, MI; Suzan and Gary Molden of St. Johns, MI; Pamela and Michael Rice of St. Johns, MI; Cookie (Veanne) and Larry Kleinhardt of Clare, MI; Bill Rings of St. Johns, MI; Lonnie Rings of St. Johns, MI; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Howard and Barbara Kieffer of Ovid, MI; sister Arlene Sigafoose of Elsie, MI; sister in law Joyce Nussbaumer and John Gillespie of St. Johns, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Dennis Kieffer, 3 sisters Barb, Annie, and Shirley; and a brother Richard Kieffer.<br \/>\nMemorials may be made to St. Johns American Legion Post #153.
