\nAfter over 23 years of public service, Clinton County Assistant Prosecutor Mike Clarizio is taking his exemplary leadership record to another level by announcing his candidacy for 65A District Court Judge in Clinton County.
\n\"\"Judge Richard D. Wells, who is retiring at the conclusion of his current term, has endorsed Clarizio’s candidacy.
\n“Mike has appeared before me for more than 20 years and his experience, integrity and work ethic have enabled him to become a highly respected assistant prosecutor,” Judge Wells says. “Serving more than 23 years in the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office, Mike possesses a proven track record in the courtroom as well as a determination to see justice served. He has successfully prosecuted the most serious and difficult cases in our county, and as a result of his efforts our community is a safer place to live.”
\nWorking within the county’s judicial and law enforcement systems alongside Judge Wells has been a valuable learning experience for the capable prosecutor.
\n“A judge must serve the community with integrity, and Judge Wells has demonstrated that over the years – I promise to live up to the high standards he established,” Clarizio says. “My courtroom experience has taught me that our system of justice works only if judges are committed to seek the truth and treat all citizens fairly and with respect.”
\nA graduate of Michigan State University, Clarizio earned his law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He served as a law clerk at a legal firm in Brighton and worked as a PAAM intern for the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney before being named as a Clinton County Assistant Prosecutor in 1991.
\nAs a senior criminal trial attorney, Clarizio is in District Court nearly on a daily basis where he has prosecuted upwards of 8,000 misdemeanors, felonies and civil infractions. He has convicted murderers, child molesters, rapists, armed robbers, drug dealers and embezzlers.
\n“For the past 23 years, I have been protecting the citizens of Clinton County as a county prosecutor, and I know how to handle the large case load that’s required of the District Court judge,” he says.”I believe it is important to represent the rights of innocent victims and to use my legal skill and knowledge to protect our communities from crime.”
\nA past president and a current member of the Clinton County Bar Association, Clarizio served as a member of the State Bar of Michigan 29th Circuit Representative Assembly, and was a union representative for the Police Officers Labor Council for the Clinton County Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Unit. He also served as treasurer of the Clinton County Republican Party.
\nClarizio is a past recipient of the Harold B. Reed Award which is presented annually by the Clinton County Bar Association to the attorney who displays the highest degree of skill, professionalism and courtesy in the practice of law. He has received certificates of appreciation from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, and has been recognized by Clinton County Prosecutor Charles Sherman for exemplary service and dedication to providing quality services and fair treatment to victims of crime.
\nAs a long-time county resident, Clarizio has been involved with numerous community organizations including the St. Johns Rotary Club, DeWitt Lions Breakfast Club, Big Brothers\/Big Sisters of Clinton County, St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns and the Catholic Community of St. Jude in DeWitt. He and his wife, Lisa Mazzolini-Clarizio, live with their family in the DeWitt area.
\n“Clinton County is a great place to work, live and raise a family,” Clarizio says. “I have worked hard to help make our communities safe places to live and raise our families. I want to serve as district court judge because I understand what is needed to build a safe and secure community.
