She was born December 12, 1930 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Student) Wright. Patricia was a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Education, was a retired teacher at the Beekman Center in Lansing and member of the MEA.<br \/>\nSurviving is a daughter, Wendy Lavra of Lansing; one son, Al (Michelle) Lavra of St. Johns; a stepson, David Lavra of Thailand; two grandsons, Albert and Daniel Lavra; one sister, Mary (Larry) Martin of Dearborn, MI; nephew, Marvin (Melissa) Martin and great niece and nephew Macy and Ewan.<br \/>\nFuneral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 6, 2014 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a>, St. Johns. Grand River Ave. Lansing, MI 48906.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mary Jean Huguelet<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/huguelet_maryjean.jpg\" HSPACE=\"8\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Mary Jean Huguelet, age 87, of Elsie, MI passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan.<br \/>\nA Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Elsie on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Ralph Parkin officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9 A.M. until time of service at the church.<br \/>\nMary Jean was born in Elsie, Michigan on December 15, 1926, the daughter of Gilbert Davis and Mary (Dennison) Stadick. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1944. Mary Jean married Don on November 13, 1958 in St. Johns, Michigan. Don died on August 24, 2012. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family brought her much enjoyment. She and Don spent 13 enjoyable winters in Florida. Mary Jean was a past member of the Elsie Literary Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elsie, Michigan.<br \/>\nShe is survived by her children; Deborah and Ted Schulz of Bannister, MI, Wendy Frye of Elsie, MI, Karla and Ed Bancroft of Ovid, MI, Perry and Patti Munson of Elsie, MI, Lee and Rosemary Huguelet of St. Johns, MI, Michelle and Gary Helmer of St. Johns, MI, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, 2 sisters; Faye and Bob Oliver of Traverse City, MI, JoAnn and Ray Chase of East Lansing, MI, and several nieces and nephews. Laverne A. Ames<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/ames_laverne.jpg\" HSPACE=\"8\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Rev. Laverne A. Ames, 82, of Rockville, Indiana died at 8:58 pm Friday, January 31, 2014 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born July 8, 1931 in Durand, Michigan to the late Arthur Ames and Blanche Kelly Ames. He was a retired Nazarene Elder. He also retired from the U.S.Navy with the rank of Lieutenant with over 22 years continuous service. He served from March 1951 to July 1, 1973. Duties included serving oversees in a weather recon squadron, flying into typhoons in the Western Pacific, serving with ZW-1, an airship squadron from Lakehurst, NJ, Adak, Alaska, Kingsville Texas, Guam and Hawaii. His awards include the Navy Achievement Metal, three Good Conduct Medals, Korean Service Medal, U.N Security Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal with several clusters, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.<br \/>\nHe was a member of the Rockville Christian Church where he served as an Elder, board secretary, Sunday school teacher and leader of a mid-week Bible study group. He graduated from R.B. Wilson High School, St. Johns, Michigan June 1950. He graduated from Indiana State University with a B.S. degree in 1977, an M.S. degree in 1979 and a Doctorate in 1988. He taught school in Gibson, Davies and Vanderburgh Counties and served as a substitute teacher in Parke County. He also taught Petroleum Technology Curriculum at Lincoln Trail College, Robison, Illinois for five years. Dr. Ames also served as principal in Mt. Olivet, Kentucky and Princeton, Florida.<br \/>\nHe was married to Blanche V. Simpson December 2, 2001 and she survives. Also surviving, two daughters, Wanda (Mike) Sturgeon of Winter Spring, Florida and Dawn (Jeff) Kissell of Newburg, Indiana; one step-daughter, Jean (James) Burns of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister, Alice Williamson of Durand, Michigan; four step grandchildren, Jonathan Burns of Indianapolis, Brittany Kissel of Newburgh, Mark Sturgeon and Greg Sturgeon both of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ernest and Lamont; six sisters, Martha, Evelyn, Nellie Grace, Lucille, Lee Anna and Inadell. A daughter Valarie also preceded him in death. He was married to Rosetta Rathbun, St. Johns, Michigan, July 10, 1954 who preceded him in death January 30, 2000.<br \/>\nServices will be 11:30 a.m., Wed. Koenigsknecht of Fowler, MI died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the age of 87. Born February 8, 1926 to Frank and Rosa (Thelen) Koenigsknecht. George was an Army Veteran of WWII, he was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, E.J. Werner Post 3733. He retired from Fisher Body. George married Joan M. She was born on July 7, 1918 in Lebanon Township of Clinton County, Michigan the youngest child of James and Inez (VanSickle) Wright.<br \/>\nShe grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Maple Rapids High School in 1936.  It was in high school that she met her future husband, Parmer R. Phillips.  They were married on April 15, 1938 at the Congregational Christian Church parsonage in Maple Rapids.  Following their marriage, they moved to the Phillips family farm\/orchard in Fulton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan, where they resided together until his death in January 2007.  She remained there until her death. Her most prized accomplishment was the love and appreciation of her family.<br \/>\nAs a young bride and mother, she helped on the family farm by helping care for the animals, having a large garden from which she canned and froze food to provide for her family.  She also helped in the sale of the fruits at the farm until she was in her 90\u2019s.  Some of her hobbies and talents were, cooking, sewing, gardening, raising flowers, quilting.  When she could no longer attend her flower beds and garden, she was very disappointed.<br \/>\nShe loved to sew, using the old Singer sewing machine she had received as a wedding gift rather than the newer machine with multiple stitch options. She continued sewing for charity and had made lap quilts, receiving blankets, \u201cpillowcase\u201d dresses, aprons, etc.  She made quilts that she quilted by hand for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and had already made some ahead for the anticipated great-great grandchildren.  She was a lifelong member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed making flower arrangements during the growing season, playing the piano and organ and participating in the United Methodist Women.<br \/>\nMary is survived by her daughter Priscilla Fox of California, son Dennis (Gayla Johnson) Phillips of St. Johns, Michigan, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Parmer Phillips, daughter Kathleen Phillips, parents and four brothers, Kenneth, Keith, Clayton and Donald Wright and their spouses.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church at 2307 W Maple Rapids Road, St. Johns, MI with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm. followed by funeral service which will be held on Thursday, February 6th at 3:00 pm.  There will be a fellowship time with light refreshments following the service. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home and on Monday one hour prior to the funeral service.<br \/>\nDaniel was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 23, 1971, the son of Arnold Rudolph and Dolores Jean (Hinkley) Minarik. Dan graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School in 1989 and from Ferris State University School of Pharmacy in 1998. Dan worked as a pharmacist in several pharmacies in the mid-Michigan area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, farming and was a gun enthusiast. Dan collected old cars and motorcycles. He loved interacting with people.<br \/>\nDan is survived by his mother Dolores and Herb Bucholtz of St. Johns, MI, 2 brothers; Michael and Alice Minarik of Elsie, MI, and Jeffrey Minarik of Elsie, MI, nieces and nephews; Geoffrey, Patrick, Amanda and Ronald Minarik, Allie and River Minarik, close cousin; Amelia Pouch of Battle Creek, MI, cousins; Vanessa, Travis and Andy, 2 step brothers; Peter and Jessica Bucholtz of St. Johns, MI, and Shawn Bucholtz of Washington, DC, 2 step sisters; Kristine and Paul Holden of St. Johns, MI, and Jeanette and Roger Klein of Grayling, MI, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
