The 2014 Challenge includes middle schools located in DeWitt, Fowler, and the Pewamo/Westphalia areas. This year’s theme is promotion of the schools fine arts programs.
Each school is using this theme to create four posters which will be displayed at various festivals taking place this summer throughout the County. At the festivals, the public will be invited to vote on their favorite poster. Copies of the posters will also be available to purchase. These votes plus the number of posters sold will be tallied and a People’s Choice Award of $325 will be presented to the winning school’s art program.
In addition to the People’s Choice Award, there will be a 1st Place ($325), 2nd Place ($225), and a 3rd Place ($175) Award presented to the winning schools’ art programs based upon the decision of a panel of local art experts. Funding for the Art Challenge is made possible from a grant through the Michigan Council for Art and Cultural Affairs, as well as support from local businesses, organizations and Arts Council members.
The Clinton County Arts Council, based in St. Johns, has supported the arts in mid-Michigan since 1981.
