Children\u2019s confidence and reading skills grow in a relaxing environment. This \u201cTail Waggin\u2019 Tutor\u201d program with Arrow, a certified therapy dog, will be available for children ages 6 to 12. A child can read aloud for 15 minutes to Arrow in our quiet study room on Thursday evenings starting June 19th through August 28th (NO July 3rd session). Arrow will be at the library from 6:30-7:30 pm. Registration is required and begins May 29th. Call or stop at the circulation desk for available dates &#038; times. Let Arrow help give your child the encouragement they need to read aloud.<br \/>\n<strong>Movies at Briggs Library<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Briggs Library will be showing movies this summer. Every Friday from June 13 \u2013 August 22 the library will be presenting family movies. All movies will be rated G or PG and will start at 3 pm; all children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults will have a chance to come and chat with other film fans on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm. Titles for all programs will be announced shortly.<br \/>\n<strong>Adult Book Club<\/strong><br \/>\nThe June selection of the Bookaholics book club is now available. We will be reading Robert J. Sawyer\u2019s science fiction novel, \u201cFlashforward.\u201d Without warning, all seven billion people on Earth black out for more than two minutes. Millions die as planes fall from the sky, people tumble down staircases, and cars plow into each other. During the blackout, everyone experiences a glimpse of what his or her future holds \u2013 or doesn\u2019t hold \u2013 and theses visions set people on journeys to usher in or avoid their fate. The club will meet Thursday, June 19 at 12 pm at the library or at Bruno\u2019s Bar at 7:30 pm.<br \/>\n<strong>eReader Class<\/strong><br \/>\nCome to the Library to learn how to download eBooks to your iPad, Nook or Kindle.\u00a0For devices that can download the Overdrive app (i.e. iPad, Kindle Fire, Nook Color), classes are offered Tuesday, June 3 at 6:00 p.m. or Friday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m.\u00a0Devices that can\u2019t download apps (i.e. Kindle Paperwhite, Nook Simple Touch) will meet on Tuesday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m or Friday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m.\u00a0Registration is required and you must have a valid Library card to register.\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Jr. Readers<\/strong><br \/>\nCelebrate summer reading with Junior Readers on Monday, June 23 from 7-8 p.m.\u00a0We will be discussing the book \u201cBenjamin Franklinstein Lives\u201d by Matthew McElligott and Larry Tuxbury.\u00a0The book club is for kids ages 7-9 and includes a game, science experiment and snack.\u00a0Registration is required and copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk when you register.<br \/>\n<strong>Summer Storytimes<\/strong><br \/>\nLapsit \u2013 Offered Friday mornings, 10:00-10:30 from June 13 \u2013 July 18 (skipping July 4). Sessions are designed for 12-24 months with a participating adult. Program includes literacy development through music, tactile activities, finger-plays and simple movement.<br \/>\nToddler &#8211; Choose Wednesday mornings, June 11 \u2013 July 16 or Thursday mornings, June 12 \u2013 July 17 both from 10:00-10:30 Sessions are designed for ages 2 and 3 with a participating adult. Program includes crafts, stories, music and more.<br \/>\nPrimetime &#8211; Designed for ages 3-5, this session is offered Tuesday evenings, 7-7:30, from June 10-July 15. Program includes stories, games, crafts and music.<br \/>\nPre-Reader &#8211; Select Tuesday mornings, 10-10:30 or 11-11:30, June 10-July 15. Sessions are designed for independent listeners ages 4-6 and feature stories, activities, music and crafts.<br \/>\n<strong>LEGO Block Party<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are two options available: Children ages 4-6 can build with Duplo blocks at the library on Thursday, June 5 from 6:30-7:30pm OR children in grades 1-5 can build with traditional LEGOs on Saturday, June 7 from 10-11am. The Saturday session will meet at the train depot across from the library. These programs are for independent participants, and registration for both programs is required.<br \/>\n<strong>Staff Picks<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you are looking for a good book to read here is a list of titles that Library staff enjoyed or found informative in the last month. Fiction: All You Can Dream Buffet by Barbara O\u2019Neal, What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman, Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline, Night Diver by Elizabeth Lowell and Catching Air by Sarah Pekkanen. Non-fiction: Sous Chef: 24 Hours on the Line by Michael Gibney, Bright Baazar: Embracing Color for Make-You-Smile Style by Will Taylor, The Witness Wore Red by Rebecca Musser and Ken Jennings\u2019s Trivia Almanac by Ken Jennings. Miss Marie\u2019s Juvenile Pics! : Gabe &#038; Izzy: Standing Up for America\u2019s Bullied by Gabrielle Ford, The Secret Box by Whitaker Ringwald, Like Carrot Juice on a Cupcake by Julie Sternberg and Okay Andy by Maxwell Eaton.<br \/>\n<strong>June Fundraiser<\/strong><br \/>\nStarting June 2nd there will be donated juvenile books and adult audio books for sale. Each item is one dollar. Money earned from this fundraiser will used for new juvenile books &#038; adult audio books.
