Learn about the science behind the sound in this musical, action-packed and informational live-in-concert program. Fascinating facts about music, vibration, sound, sound waves, acoustics and more are blended with feel-good songs in an interactive presentation that is suitable for all ages. Join us for this Free program on Tuesday, July 22nd. Refreshments (home-made cookies and a cool drink) are available 6:30 to 7:00 pm with the program running 7:00 to 7:45 pm. Registration is not required but appreciated. This program is being sponsored by the Library Friends Group.<br \/>\n<strong>Drop In Storytime Coming in August<\/strong><br \/>\nThe library will be offering another Drop-In storytime in August. The program will be geared towards independent listeners ages 3-5, with a choice of two sessions: Friday afternoons, August 1-22 from 2-2:30, or Thursday evenings, August 7-28 from 6:30-7:00. No registration is required for this fun program that will include stories and an activity sheet.<br \/>\n<strong>Bookaholics<\/strong><br \/>\nThere is no set book for the July 17 meeting of the Bookaholics, so anyone interested in seeing what these relaxed book clubs are all about is encouraged to bring any book they are currently reading to share with the group. Come hear what other bookaholics are reading and find your next great read! The clubs will meet at their usual times: 12:00pm at the library, and at 7:30pm at Bruno\u2019s Bar.<br \/>\n<strong>Chapter Chatter<\/strong><br \/>\nFizz&#8230;Boom&#8230;Read! Chapter Chatter Program:<br \/>\nThis series of 4 free programs are for children ages 6 -8 years old. There will be tales to tell, snacks to eat, experiments to try and even a field trip or two! August 4th will kick off with &#8220;The Science of Gravity&#8221; &#038; &#8220;Will It Float&#8221; experiments 7-7:45pm @ the library. August 11th, 7-7:45pm will be a Field Trip to explore the &#8220;Science of Sight&#8221; at Dr. David Peters\u2019 office. August 18th, 6:30-8 pm we will make a field trip to the Liquid Agro-Culture Corporate Headquarters to learn about the &#8220;Science of Agriculture&#8221;\u00a0in their new state of the art education facility. Lots of hands on fun! August 25th, 7-7:45pm\u00a0\u201cTO BE ANNOUNCED\u201d&#8230;. we\u2019re working up something fun. Registration is required. Hurry this will fill up fast!<br \/>\n<strong>Tween <\/strong><br \/>\n\u2018Tween science buffs get ready to join us in the lab. Our Mad Science program will take place on Monday, July 28 from 6:30-8:00pm, and it\u2019s gonna get messy! Some experiments will be demonstrated, others will be very hands on (or IN your bowl of slime). Wear clothes that you (or Mom!) won\u2019t mind getting stained. Get ready for some explosive fun! The program is open to all \u2018tweens ages 9-12, and registration is required.<br \/>\n<strong>Movies at Briggs Library<\/strong><br \/>\nFamily Movie Fridays are continuing at Briggs Library! The next features will be Honey, I Shrunk the Kids on July 18 and Free Willy on July 25. Both movies are rated PG and will start at 3:00pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and are welcome to bring their own pillows or camp chairs. Refreshments will be available to purchase for a small fee. The next installment of our Adult Summer Movie Series will take place on Thursday, July 24 at 6:30 when we will screen the 1933 science fiction classic The Invisible Man.<br \/>\n<strong>New at the Library \u2013 \u201cTale to Tail\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat a fun way to keep your child\u2019s reading skills up over the summer. Let your child\u2019s confidence and reading ability grow in a relaxing environment. This \u201cTail Waggin\u2019 Tutor\u201d program with Arrow, a certified therapy dog, will be available for children ages 6 to 12. A child can read aloud for 15 minutes to Arrow in our quiet study room. There are 2 (15 minute slots) left on Thursdays 7\/24 &#038; 7\/31 and 1 (15 minute)slot available on 8\/7 &#038; 8\/14. This has been a popular addition to our regular summer programs. Registration is required. Call 224-4702 or stop at the circulation desk for available dates and times.<br \/>\n<strong>Briggs Reads!<\/strong><br \/>\nBriggs Public Library is offering Briggs Reads! a community-wide reading event this summer! In September, the library will be hosting local author Lori Nelson Spielman, as she discusses her novel, \u201cThe Life List.\u201d This charming book shares the story of one woman who sets out to complete her old list of childhood goals, and finds that her lifelong dreams lead her down a path she never expects. The library has multiple copies of the book on hand, and is inviting all interested patrons to read it this summer in advance of Ms. Spielman\u2019s visit. If you are interested in reading the book, stop by the library to borrow a copy.
