\nClinton County Arts Council is very pleased to offer a one-day class in drawing to students age 14 through adult this summer. The class will take place on August 2 from 9:00 AM to Noon in the St. Johns Depot, 107 E. Railroad St., St. Johns, 48879. The class will help beginners gain some skills and will provide good practice in a fun environment for emerging artists of all ages, 14 and over.
\nThe teacher of the class is Joshua Gove who graduated from St. Johns High School in 2010 and went on to earn his Bachelor\u2019s of Fine Arts Degree from Alma College. He studied in their Department of Art and Design, with an emphasis in drawing and painting and a minor in art history. Thanks to his proficiency in Spanish, Josh was also able to travel through Spain studying their arts and culture, as well as go to Quito, Ecuador. Another of his travel highlights was to study art history in Paris.
\nDuring the 3-hour class, participants will begin by studying gestures and quick sketches to get a feel for creating a composition and then move into a longer still-life drawing using pencil, pen, charcoal, or pastels.
\nToward the end of the class students will choose a quick project from a few possibilities Josh will have to offer \u2014 make a tile design using their initials in a pattern; design a logo for themselves and a product they “invent;” or choose a famous artwork Josh provides and “copy” it in their own style.
\nAt the end students will engage in a short critique to talk about their ideas and their thought process while making their pieces.
\nThe cost for this educational experience is $20 per student, with Josh providing all supplies. Those who are interested in attending are asked to register by downloading the flyer on www.clintoncountyarts.org<\/a> or by going to the Clinton County Arts Gallery Tuesday \u2013 Saturday to fill out the registration form. Checks should be made out to CCAC.
