\nDavid Gerald grew up listening to the Blues played Motor City style in his hometown of Detroit, but the Mississippi roots of the music shine through today in performances by the David Gerald Band – thanks to his parents.
\n\"\"Gerald’s hard-hitting, contemporary Blues and R&B arrive in mid-Michigan July 23 when the guitarist\/singer-songwriter and his band play at the weekly Concert in the Park summer music series at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell. There is no admission to the show that begins at 7 p.m.
\nGerald started playing guitar at the age of 16, influenced by Prince and other 1980’s rock guitarists. Later, he rediscovered the Blues and listened to the music of Albert King, ZZ Hill, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others.
\nNow in his 40s, Gerald performs with his band at clubs and festivals across the United States like Chrysler Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak, and Riverdays Festival, formerly known as the International Freedom Festival in Detroit.
\nGerald is held in high esteem in the Blues community, and his music receives widespread radio play. He was recently listed as #1 on the ReverbNation Blues charts for Michigan Blues artists, and his debut album “Hell and Back” reached #1 on Roots Music Report’s Blues Chart for Michigan-based artists and has remained in the top 20 for many weeks in a row.
