Wirth, Joan Carol Griffith, Rolland D. Gruesbeck, E. Arlene Holden, Michael Jess Tompkins, Joan Gibbs<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Eunice G. Wirth<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/wirth_eunice.jpg\" alt=\"wirth_eunice\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42272\" \/>Eunice G. Wirth died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the age of 86. She was born September 13, 1927 in Carson City, MI the daughter of John and Helen (Halfmann) Kramer. Eunice was retired from the State of Michigan where she worked as a secretary. Eunice was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler where she played the organ and was a long time member of the church choir.<br \/>\nSurviving are her children, Catherine Swainston, Tom Hopko, Linda Hopko (Dan Burl), Sharon Hopko, Joe Hopko, Nancy (Mike) Mason, Patty Shepherd and Mike (Donna) Wirth; seven grandchildren; sister, Alice (Erwin) Pline; brother, Alan (Teresa) Kramer; very special friends, Lolie Fabela and Bonnie Smith and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph Hopko and Anthony Wirth, her parents, a brother, Donald Kramer and sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Lawrence Mueller.<br \/>\nMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, September 5, 2014 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a>, St. Johns. A rosary will be prayed at 3:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society 7095 W. Grand River Ave. Lansing, MI 48906.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Joan Carol Griffith<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/griffith_joan.jpg\" alt=\"griffith_joan\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42269\" \/>Joan Carol Griffith, age 79, died on September 2, 2014. She was born on September 16, 1934, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of John and Irene (Peterson) Bolander. She married Kenneth Leroy Griffith in Hawaii on February 26, 1954, and he preceded her in death on February 21, 2005. Joan was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.<br \/>\nShe is survived by her children, James (Dawn) Griffith, Katherine (John) Love and Patricia Griffith all of St. Johns, 7 grandchildren, Erik Love, Kristin (Dan) Slough, Jamie (Riley) Thelen, Kaitlyn (Anthony) Sickelka, Haley Griffith, Hilary Griffith and Cole Thomas, 1 great grandson, Kelton Slough, brother, Pete Bolander, special niece Bobbi Jean (Alex) Sisto, sister-in-law, Carol (Greg) Bauer and brother-in-law, Edward (Carol) Griffith, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Athlyn Gardner and brothers, Darwin and Gordon Bolander.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Dr. Bryan Salminen officiating, burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Gruesbeck<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/gruesbeck_rolland.jpg\" alt=\"gruesbeck_rolland\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42258\" \/>Rolland D. Gruesbeck, 83 of Ovid, MI died on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Owosso Memorial Hospital. Rolland was born on July 23, 1931 in Morrice, MI the son of Arthur and Edna (Peet) Gruesbeck. Rolland was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked for Karber Block Co. in St. Johns, MI as manager of the redi-mix cement plant until his retirement. On December 26, 1953 he married Jeanette Wakefield in Angola, IN. Rolland enjoyed feeding the birds, golfing, polishing rocks and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.<br \/>\nHe is survived by his wife, Jeanette, daughter Joanne Hauk and sons Bryan (Char) Gruesbeck all of Ovid and Rick (Judy Shank) Gruesbeck of Utah; brothers and sisters, Ilene Corp, Hattie Spencer, Grace Luke, Margaret (Vern) Jackson, Marjorie (Ray) Behrens, Rolla (Coleen) Gruesbeck and Vaughn Gruesbeck; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, William, Earl, Myrl, Vern, Lena Mourdaunt and Wayne Gruesbeck.<br \/>\nThe family will receive friends and relatives at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a>, St. Johns on Thursday, September 4, 2014, 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Arlene Holden<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/holden_arlene.jpg\" alt=\"holden_arlene\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42253\" \/>E. Arlene Holden of St. Johns, MI died at the age of 100. Born April 27, 1914 to Russell E. and Blanche L. (Cross) Ash, Arlene grew up on a farm in rural Duplain Township. She was a long-time member of Duplain Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary. After 29 years of service, Arlene retired from the General Telephone Company. On October 21, 1940, she married Charles D. \u201cWayne\u201d Holden and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1985.<br \/>\nSurviving are her sister, Geraldine (Jack) Hawes of Elsie; nephews, Gary (Carole) Hawes of Laingsburg and David Ash of Saginaw; niece, Lois Wade of Owosso; great nephew, Brad (Lynne) Hawes of Lansing; great nieces, Bethany (Matt) Schantz of Caledonia, Becky (Shawn) Hale of Midland; 10 great great grand nieces and nephews and her special church family at Duplain Church of Christ. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, a sister, Lucille Wade, and brothers, Larry and Robert Ash.<br \/>\nArlene\u2019s life centered around her church. She was a former Sunday School teacher, and although she and Wayne had no children of their own, Arlene thought of her nieces and nephews and Sunday School students as her children. In addition to her church, Arlene had a love of flower gardening and entertaining both friends and family.<br \/>\nFuneral services will be held 12:00 noon Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Duplain Church of Christ, 5565 E. Colony Rd., St. Johns, MI with Brad Hawes and Gary Hawes officiating. Burial will follow at Duplain Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mike was an avid hunter, even in his wheelchair. He loved mentoring youth in hunting, fishing, and counseling. He was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church in St. Johns, MI.<br \/>\nMike is survived by his mother Diane Harger of St. Johns, MI, father David Harger of St. Johns, MI, brother David and Dolores Tompkins of St. Johns, MI, brother Gordy and Tina Tompkins of Lansing, MI, sister Traci and Darrell Deering of St. Johns, MI, brother Dan Harger of Spring Hill, TN, brother Eric and Terri Harger of St. Johns, MI, sister Holly and John Noble of Tarpon Springs, FL, sister Sharon and Gordy Willett of Coral, MI, sister Christine Harger and Greg of Haslett, MI, 6 nieces, 14 nephews, several great nieces and nephews, aunt Barbara Harger of Onaway, MI, and special friend Casey Eiseler of St. Johns, MI. Joan was born the only daughter of Lucius E. and Georgina (Reberger) Sharrock in Bonzi Beach, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on February 20, 1922. Joan had one brother, Benjamin, who together with her parents preceded her in death.<br \/>\nJoan married John (Jack) Hudson on October 14, 1944, in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, during World War II. Joan served in the Women\u2019s Australian Air Force and Jack was in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. Joan and Jack settled in St. Johns and raised their family until Jack\u2019s death in June of 1968. She was a long time member of the St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church. Joan met Phillip Arthur Gibbs in the winter of 1969 and they were wed on Valentine\u2019s Day, 1970. Phil and Joan resided in Haslett, Michigan until his death in 1975. Joan returned to St. Johns, and worked at the Lansing Sears, Roebuck &#038; Co. until she retired in 1992.<br \/>\nJoan is survived by her four children, Robyn (James) Rehmann of Anchorage, AK; Cynthia (James) Lang, St. Johns, MI; Rick (Jeanne) Hudson, Ionia, MI; and Todd (Cecilia) Hudson of North Pole, AK, and 2 step-daughters, Connie and Kristine , 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.<br \/>\nA Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI., with Rev. Karen Lewis officiating with a private family burial to follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12 \u2013 1 p.m.<br \/>\nIn recognition of Joan\u2019s service during WWII, the Australian flag was presented to her family by the St. Johns Honor Guard.
