Haunted Michigan and more
\nKat Tedsen and Bev Rydel, authors of the “Haunted Travels Michigan” series, will be at Briggs Library Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 pm. During this free program they will share a few of their favorite stories about their investigations of Michigan’s most haunted locations, including the details of their trip to the site of the Bath School Disaster. Registration is appreciated and is now open. Some details of the author’s stories, especially those surrounding the Bath School, may not be suitable for young children.
\nCaroling Kids<\/strong>
\nAll kids ages 4-10 are invited join our Caroling Kids at Briggs to sing at our Holiday Program as we greet Santa Claus! Practices will be Tuesdays in November (4, 18 and 25) from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. and we will perform when Santa visits the Library on Thursday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is from October 14 – November 4.

\nFamily Movie<\/strong>
\nFamily Movie Friday returns October 17 with the showing of “Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein!” This feature-length cartoon is rated G and will start at 2:00 pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and are welcome to bring their own pillows or camp chairs. Refreshments will be available to purchase for a small fee.
\nLEGO Block Party<\/strong>
\nThere are two options available: Children in grades 1-5 can build with traditional LEGOs on Saturday, October 25 from 10-11 OR children ages 4-6 can build with Duplo blocks at the library on Monday, October 27 from 6:30-7:30pm. The Saturday session will meet at the train depot across from the library. These programs are for independent participants, and registration is required for both programs.
\nChapter Chatter – Workin’ Like a Dog! <\/strong>
\nJoin us in learning to appreciate what our “best friends” can do to help us. Children ages 6-8 who are independent listeners will be able to learn about dogs that assist those in need. This program takes place on Monday evenings, 7-7:45, November 3rd thru November 24th. Library staff selects and reads a chapter book to the children over the course of these 4 Mondays plus they will get to meet and learn about different service dogs. Registration is required. Loads of doggone fun!
\nBriggsflix<\/strong>
\nThe Briggsflix Movie Club’s Halloween Film Fest continues each Wednesday evening throughout October. The next installments will be “Scream” on October 15 and “Carrie” (1976) on October 22. Both films are rated R, and are intended for an adult audience. All shows are free<\/strong> and will begin at 6:30, with a short discussion following the film. Patrons are welcome to bring camp chairs or other comfortable seating.

\nBookaholics<\/strong>
\nThere is still time to read “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn, the October selection of the Bookaholics Book Club. Reporter Camille Preaker returns to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years Camille has avoided speaking to her mother and half sister, but now, back in her old bedroom, she becomes dogged by her own demons as she unravels the puzzle of her past. The clubs will meet Thursday, October 16 at noon at the library or at 7:30 pm at Bruno’s Bar.
\nJunior Readers Book Club<\/strong>
\nJoin the Junior Readers Book Club for a PILLOW FIGHT on Monday, October 20th at 7:00 pm. We will be discussing Nightmare on Joe’s Street by Jon Scieszka as well playing a game, a making a craft and having a snack. The book club is designed for youth ages 7-9. Books will be available at the Circulation Desk when registering.<\/p>\n
