Tom Leonard was recently elected as the Speaker Pro Tempore for the Michigan House of Representative\u2019s 2015-2016 legislative session. Leonard will be second in line in leadership of the 63-seat Republican House majority.<br \/>\nThe Speaker Pro Tempore helps preside over House proceedings, moderate debate, make rulings on procedure and announce the results of votes.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is a great honor to have been chosen for this role by my colleagues in the House,\u201d said Leonard, R-DeWitt Township. \u201cHouse Republicans have worked tirelessly to create a brighter future for all of Michigan\u2019s families. I am excited to be in a leadership position where I can help continue that work. Michigan\u2019s economy is rebounding and jobs are being added throughout the state. House Republicans are committed to making sure Michigan continues its path to recovery.<br \/>\n\u201cFor the past four years, Speaker Bolger and his leadership team have done a great job turning our state around. I look forward to working alongside Speaker-Elect Kevin Cotter and the rest of the House leadership team as we tackle some of Michigan\u2019s biggest issues and drive our state forward.\u201d<br \/>\nFirst elected in 2012, Leonard currently serves as vice chair of the House Insurance Committee.
