The two 15 year old males were being housed in the unsecured section of the facility for offenses which did not require them to be housed in the secured section. Both males climbed out their respective bedroom windows and fled on foot.
A Police K-9 attempted to track the youths and was unsuccessful. At the same time, Clinton County Central Dispatch activated the newly acquired CodeRED Emergency Communications Network to notify homeowners within a provided radius of the incident to make them aware of the juvenile runaways. A police canvas of the area was also conducted to no avail.
A few hours later at 10:01PM, Chief Kyle Knight located the individuals in St. Johns Wal-Mart and they were taken into custody without incident. The two runaways fled on foot to a residence in the county where they stole a quad and drove it back to Wal-Mart to seek shelter from the cold. While at Wal-Mart both juveniles stole items from the store and are being charged for this as well. Both juveniles were transported back to Green Haven Youth Home were they were lodged in the secured section awaiting their new charges.
In his first week on the job Chief Knight says he was very pleased with the work of his officers, Sgt. Eric Worrall and Officer Eric Verlinde, who assisted him with the search and investigation. Chief Knight says he also appreciated the assistance provided to the department from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County Central Dispatch, and the DeWitt Township Police Department.

[9

post-44168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
