Simon, Bernadine Kieffer, Rita Rose Motz<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Dennis Ray Cogswell<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/cogswell_dennis.jpg\" alt=\"cogswell_dennis\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-44434\" \/>Dennis Ray Cogswell, age 59 died on December 18, 2014 in Lansing, after a brief illness.<br \/>\nHe was born in St. Johns, MI, on January 24, 1955 to Walter and Irene (Schultz) Cogswell. He spent most of his life in the St Johns and Lansing area.<br \/>\nDennis is survived by three sisters: Diane Wilson, Linda Thompson and Ellen Gorman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Patrick Gorman.<br \/>\nCremation has taken place and there will be no services.<br \/>\nThe Family is being served by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smith Family Funeral Homes<\/a>, St. Johns, MI<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Clarence P. Simon<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/simon_clarence2.jpg\" alt=\"simon_clarence2\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-44431\" \/>Clarence P. Simon, 94 of St. Johns, MI formerly of Fowler died on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor.  Clarence was born on February 20, 1920 in Fowler, MI the son of Arthur and Cornelia (Cook) Simon.  He graduated from Fowler High School in 1938, and on June 25, 1947 he married Genevieve Martin in Westphalia, MI.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and for many years was owner operator of Simon&#8217;s Restaurant in Fowler.  Clarence was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fowler VFW, St. Johns American Legion and was an avid golfer.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/simon_clarence1.jpg\" alt=\"simon_clarence1\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-44432\" \/>Survivors include his wife, Genevieve, his loving wife of 67 years, children, Carol (Steve) Harry, Gene (Nita) Simon, Marilyn (Ray) Hintz, and Ellen (Walt) Wheeler.  12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are 2 sisters, Frances Thelen and Dorothy Bradley.  Sisters-in-law Delores Schueller, Regina Simon and Joan Simon as well as several nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by children Janice, Janet and Gary, as well as his parents, brothers Ronald, Leon, Bernard, Edward and Philip.  Sisters-in-law Josie Simon, and brothers-in-law Larry Motz, Joe Thelen and Marion Bradley.<br \/>\nMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard.  Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a> in St. Johns on Friday, December 26, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.  A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 P.M. and a Vigil will be prayed at 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Hazel Findlay Country Manor.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Bernadine Kieffer<\/strong><br \/>\nBernadine Kieffer, age 85, of St. Johns, MI passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, MI on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 28, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.<br \/>\nBernadine was born in Clinton County, Michigan on January 14, 1929, the daughter of Andrew and Mamie (Mead) Leavitt. Bernadine married Richard Kieffer in June of 1953; Richard passed away in August of 1984.<br \/>\nBernadine enjoyed playing Bunko, bowling, crocheting, sewing and snowmobiling. She loved to travel and go up north to her cottage. She spent part of her life raising dachshunds. Bernadine worked as a waitress at L&#038;L Restaurant in St. Johns. She was a cancer survivor and active in the American Cancer Society. Bernadine loved spending time with her grandsons and family.<br \/>\nShe is survived by son Bruce Kieffer of St. Johns, MI, daughter in law Janet Kieffer of Ovid, MI, grandsons; Scott Kieffer of Ferndale, MI, Bryan Kieffer of St. Johns, MI, and Jason Kieffer of St. Johns, MI. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dean Kieffer, sister Elsie Moore, brother Harry Leavitt, sister Beatrice Mohammed, brother Cleo Leavitt and sister Mildred Malkin.<br \/>\nMemorials may be made to American Cancer Society. She was born June 3, 1922 in Macomb County, MI the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Reis) Sturm. Rita was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns and the Ladies Altar Society.  The love of her life was her husband Art and their family. She dedicated her life to her family and only worked outside her home at age 55, when she worked for the Senior Citizens program. Nearly 70 years have passed since February 10, 1945 when Rita married Arthur Motz and they have lovingly cared for each other since that day.<br \/>\nSurviving is her husband, Art; five children, Jerald Motz of St. Johns, Marilynn (Steve) McDermott of Los Osos, CA, William (Pat) Motz of Grand Ledge, Pamela (Mick) Sheridan of Houghton, MI and Scott (Stacie) Motz of Fowlerville; ten grandchildren, Andrea Pagac, Stacey Tryloff, Nicole McDermott, Michelle Penaflor, Kristin Wuhrman, Steven Motz, Meghan and Patrick Sheridan, Maggie Motz and Ashley Towe; four great granddaughters, Julia, Amanda and Erica Pagac and Harper Penaflor and one sister-in-law, Martha Sturm. She was preceded in death by a daughter Rosemary Motz, great granddaughter, Jacqueline Pagac, two brothers, Gerald and Robert Sturm and two sisters, Margaret Elliot and Bernadette Bissell.<br \/>\nMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, December 21, 2014 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a> Home, St. Johns. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
