This was a 210% increase over 2013.
With the success of the program, the two organizations have joined forces again to continue the free collection program running in 2015. “We are thrilled to be part of this program, “said Judie Napier, manager of the program at US Ecology, “We had such a great turnout last year and we hope to double our intake this year.”
The Great Lakes Mercury Collection Program is providing free mercury collection services to residents and business in the State of Michigan. The free program will run through September 30, 2015. This is an on-going effort to collect and properly recycle mercury. US Ecology will ensure proper recycling methods which will reduce the amount of mercury from entering our environment.
In 2014 US Ecology worked with The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Great Lakes Restoration and set up a designated phone number and e-mail address that were specifically designed for all requests received for this program. During this period, US Ecology received double the requests from 2013 to include 386 bucket requests. The program recycled 347 hydrometers, 25 barometers, 1,318 industrial switches and fuses, 594 thermostats, 584 relay switches/gauges, 13 medical devices, 2 manometers, 134 lab thermometers, and 462 thermometers.
The program is easy. Upon request, US Ecology will send a free collection bucket with a shipping box to your door via common carrier. Each bucket contains easy-to-follow return instructions. Once the bucket is filled with the mercury containing device(s) it can safely be returned in the shipping box to US Ecology.
Interested parties should call or email US Ecology for a free collection container 877-960-2025 or mercurybucket@usecology.com.
More information on the Mercury Collection Program can be found at http://greatlakesrestoration.us/ or the US Ecology website at https://www.usecology.com/Services/EnvironmentalServices/Recycling/MercuryCollectionProgram

[9

post-45883","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
