Mint Country Garden Club to meet<\/strong> – June 2<\/p>\n

The monthly meeting of Mint Country Garden Club will be held Thursday, June 2, 7:15 pm. <\/p>\n

A video of gardens visited by members will be shown. Featured gardens are in France, England and Florida. <\/p>\n

Meetings are held at Clinton Commons Community Center, 1105 S. Scott Rd, St. Johns. Visitors are welcome to attend. <\/p>\n

Leonard to hold June office hours – Friday, June 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

State Rep. Tom Leonard today encouraged people to join him for office hours scheduled during June.<\/p>\n

Rep. Leonard bill package signed by governor<\/strong><\/p>\n

A bill package introduced by state Rep. Tom Leonard has been signed into law by Gov. Rick Snyder.<\/p>\n

House Bills 4660-4668, which saw largely bipartisan support in the Michigan Legislature, are meant to make the government more efficient by eliminating the requirement to create reports that aren\u2019t used by the public, the Legislature or those in the insurance industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese bills help the Department of Insurance and Financial Services save time and resources that can be better utilized,\u201d said Rep. Leonard, R-DeWitt. \u201cIn the past, the government has weighed itself down with regulations. This bill package helps to achieve the goal of streamlining government by eliminated rules and requirements that exist not because they are relevant and necessary but simply because they were created and nobody has bothered to determine if they still serve a purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n

CASA Volunteer Advocates Needed<\/strong><\/p>\n

CASA-The Voice for Clinton County’s Children is currently accepting applications for our next CASA Volunteer Advocate Training. <\/p>\n

Those interested in serving as a CASA Advocate must submit a volunteer application, completely pass a criminal and personal background check, and participate in our 30-hour pre-service training. <\/p>\n

Applicants should have ample time to visit their appointed child every 7 to 10 days (activities during visits may include playing games, playing outside, helping with homework, coloring, etc.). Our program continues to work toward our goal of having enough CASA Advocates for every Clinton County child who is in foster care. <\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at <\/p>\n

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, and at
\n– Pompeii United Methodist Church, 135 W. Burton, Pompeii, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 2. <\/p>\n

Soup, bread, fruit and dessert will be served to all who come free of charge. <\/p>\n
