Final phase of F.C. Mason project begins
Developers have announced that they have broken ground and are moving forward with the final phase of the F.C. Mason project.
They will be building a two story structure housing 26 total apartments. The crew is coming this week to set up the forms for the foundation. A small parking lot will be added behind the building to accommodate the new residents. There will be 15 one bedroom apartments and 11 two-bedroom apartments. Rental rates have not yet been established.
There were some unexpected finds when they dug down, including a foundation from the mattress factory and quilt company that used to reside on that part of the block. They also found some nice bottles they intend to preserve and display the in building.
They haven’t been able to figure out what part of the structure was for. There was a large mass of concrete with tall rods filled with cement sticking out of the ground. They know it wasn’t a well but are still not sure what it was.
New residents will not move into their new homes until July of next year. Current FCM residents will not face any construction impacts like turned off utilities. There will be construction noise during normal hours.
Developers say that they are happy to be creating additional housing for Saint Johns residents, as well as providing diverse housing options. As more people come to Saint Johns more housing varieties are needed, and this is their first step to supporting that need.
