Gale Clare Betz

Gale Clare Betz, age 86, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home.

Cremation will take place and a private celebration of his life will be held. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI.

Gale was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on June 7, 1937, the son of Clare Ernest and Vivian Irene (David) Betz. Gale graduated from Ashley High School, with the class of 1955. He married Nancy Lee Foote on September 6, 1958, at Ashley United Methodist Church. They were married sixty-three years prior to her passing away on August 4, 2022. Gale served his country in the U.S. Army.

Gale and Nancy resided in Bannister, MI for forty years until moving to St. Johns in 2005. They enjoyed spending winters in Crystal River, Florida. Gale retired from General Motors in 1993. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy.

He is survived by his children: Richard and Nancy Betz of Montrose, MI; Alan and Jamie Betz of Owosso, MI; Jill and Sam Griffet of St. Johns, MI; his grandchildren: Andy and Teilia Betz, Jordyn and Micah Florida, Devin and Lindsey Betz, and Chad and Jessica Betz; nine great-grandchildren; sister Sharron Follett. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to Clinton County Senior Center, 201 E. Walker St., St. Johns, MI 48879. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.


Daniel William Geiersbach

Daniel William Geiersbach, age 50, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023.

A private visitation will be held and cremation will take place. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. Family and friends are encouraged to wear his favorite color to the celebration, dark purple.

Daniel was born in Bay City, MI on December 13, 1972, the son of Daryl Rene and Denice Jean (Graebner) Geiersbach. He graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1990.

Dan was employed with Local 333 as a journeymen welder and pipe fitter. Dan enjoyed fishing with family, spending time with friends, playing video games, and watching scary movies. One of his happiest moments was having all three of his children together with him for the first time. Most of all he loved, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to help anyone in need and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children: Ashley and Austin Reid, Brandon Geiersbach, and Cheyenne Geiersbach; mother Denice Graebner; father Daryl Geiersbach; sister Devan and Michael Hall; half brother John Geiersbach; fiancée Donna Marek and her children: Laura, Jonathan, and Thomas; and his grandchildren: Hailey, Hannah, Tucker, Ryker, Parker, Aiden, and Rylie. He is also survived by grandmother Margie Dammoth, aunt Chris Zingg, uncle Billy Graebner, twin aunts: Denise Geiersbach Lierly and Diana Geiersbach Lane and cousins: Kristi and Kevin Kilgore, Christopher Graebner and Corey Graebner. He was preceded in death by grandfather Ralph Geiersbach, grandfather William and Ethel Graebner, niece Mariah Hall, uncle Bob Zingg, and aunt Connie Graebner.
