Jerry Pulliam

Jerry Pulliam, 90, of St. Johns, passed away peacefully January 9, 2023, under hospice care at Grace Haven in St. Johns, slipping from the warm embrace of family and friends and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where he is enjoying the company of his beloved wife, May (Betz) Pulliam and granddaughter, Elizabeth Koenigsknecht, who preceded him on his heavenly journey.

Jerry was born on January 20, 1932, the son of Joe Pulliam and Eva Flowers. He loved people, and life in general, and was particularly enthusiastic about meeting and making new friends. He loved working in his woodshop, clogging and playing cards.

His career as a teacher was life-long – beginning when he received a teaching degree from Central Michigan University, and continuing well beyond his “official” retirement in 1992. He taught in Breckenridge and ended his teaching career at St. Johns Public Schools.

Jerry married the love of his life, May Betz, on June 1, 1951. He and May became the proud parents of twin daughters, Sheila and Sheryl, on July 20, 1952. Family was a mainstay of Jerry’s life. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed the laughter and spirit of his family. He especially enjoyed attending music concerts and athletic activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry also loved dancing. He and May were well known around the mid-Michigan area for their skill at clog dancing. They enjoyed performing together at various functions, including assembly programs for young students at SJ Schools, which suited their background in education.

Jerry is survived by daughters, Sheila (Gery) Rehmann and Sheryl (Rich) Koenigsknecht; grandsons, Rich (Sara) Koenigsknecht, Chad (Kari) Rehmann and Craig (Stacy) Rehmann; great-grandchildren, Ella Elizabeth Koenigsknecht, Nolan Koenigsknecht, Kathryn Elizabeth Rehmann, Nicolas Rehmann, Kayden Rehmann, Micah Rehmann and Kenley Elizabeth Rehmann; his twin brother, Jack (Helen) Pulliam; two sisters, Brenda (Arland) Sherwood and Judith (the late Ike) Eichorn, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, May; one sister, Dorothy and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Koenigsknecht.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 2—8 PM at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns.

A Memorial Service will be held on his 91st Birthday, Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11 AM at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, St. Johns. Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. A brunch will follow.
