David Dean Hambleton

David “Danny” Dean Hambleton, 74, of Dimondale, MI passed away in his sleep in the comfort of his home on May 27, 2022. David fought a valiant fight which left the doctors “baffled” and “astonished” at his ability to be among the “less than five percent” of individuals to have survived as long as he did with his illness.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel. The family will receive friends that day from 11:00 a.m. until the service.

David was born in Cumberland, Maryland on October 20, 1947 to Donald and June Hambleton and is one of seven children. He graduated from Saint Johns High School in 1966, served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and spent much of his career as a bakery and product development manager at Westside Deli, Inc.

David was a baseball player in his early years with his team, Big Daddy’s Car Wash, winning the 1971 state championship for fast pitch baseball in a recreational league. However David would be quick to tell anyone that his most proud accomplishment was his marriage to Rosemary (Burns) Hambleton on August 28, 1971. For almost 51 years David and Rose embarked on a series of adventures often met with humor and David’s endless adoration of his bride. Their days together were often met with incidents that resulted in the uttering of, “Don’t tell the kids.”

David is survived by his wife Rose Hambleton, son Matthew (Kimberly) Hambleton, daughter Jamie (Jody) Hope, like a son Rashad (Holly) Howard, grandchildren James Hope, Grace Hope, and Sophia Hambleton, siblings Sharon (Jim) Seeley, Nancy (Bruce) Marshall, Sue Hambleton, Bill (Rhonda) Hambleton, Pam (Carl) Beach, Annette (Nick) Garland, brother-in-law Dick (Connie) Burns, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Mary Rose.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to McLaren Hospice.
