Linda V. Redman

Linda V. Redman, 77, of rural St. Johns, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Ingham County Medical Center in Okemos where she lived for a number of years with physical challenges.

Professionally, Mrs. Redman attended Central Michigan University, graduating in June of 1966. She started working in the Lansing School District, continuing for thirty years before retiring in 2004.

Mrs. Redman was married to Porter W. Redman on December 27, 1969. She spent fifty years as a housewife and mother. Her hobbies were reading, watching movies, canning, and making candy with friends and family. She also enjoyed collecting books, antiques, glassware, and Longaberger baskets.

She is survived by her sons, Scott (Deb), Chris (Shelli), and Cary (Erin); grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily and Ellyse Redman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty years, Porter W. Redman in 2019, her parents, Gale and Loreen Bangs, and her brother, Rex C. Bangs.

A Memorial Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Monday, March 7 at 10 AM. Friends may visit the funeral home on Sunday, March 6 from 1-4 PM and on Monday from 9 AM until the time of service.


Berdenia Marie Chorley

Berdenia Marie “Bernie” Chorley, age 90, of St. Johns, MI passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, March 7, 2022, with Deacon Robert Strouse officiating. Burial will take place at Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Berdenia was born in St. Johns, Michigan on February 2, 1932, the sixth of the eleven children of Harry and Isabelle (Hopkins) Lance. On February 11, 2012 Bernie married Virgil Pratt at the Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI; and he survives her. Bernie loved country music and singing at Jamborees. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in God’s great creation. She liked caring for her lawn and flowers. She was an avid hunter and fisher and always liked to talk about her adventures.

Bernie worked for Oldsmobile for 30 years. As a woman in a man’s world, she was a trailblazer and although very loving, she always spoke her mind.

Bernie is survived by her husband Virgil; daughter Sherry Miller; son Gary (Rose) Purvis; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers: Guy (Marlene) Lance, and Ernie (Maxine) Lance; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, and eight siblings.

Stephan Michael Joseph

Stephan Michael Joseph, age 64, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Ingham County Medical Care Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams and Rev. Fr. William Lugger presiding. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Stephan was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 15, 1957, the son George and Bobra Jean (Watkins) Parker. He graduated with his Master’s Degree from U of D Mercy. He then attended the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana receiving a PsyD. He married Nancy C. (Kohm) Joseph on March 25, 1988 in Madison Heights, MI.

Stephan taught at Macomb Community College, St. Catherine Catholic School, U of D Mercy, and Lansing Community College. He was also a facilitator for the graduate school at Loyola University. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He loved playing cards, and reading and writing Science Fiction.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Joseph; daughter Teresa and Eric Tatara; son Jonathan Joseph; son Gregory and Rachel Leblang Joseph; sister Patricia Parker; sister Kathleen Wildman-Nolan; brother Mark Parker; brother Jeffrey Parker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Stephan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert (Bob), Randall (RJ), Dale Parker.

Chester L. Dzubinski

Chester L. Dzubinski age 96, died October 6, 2021. He was born in Lansing, Michigan where he and his wife of 70 years raised their family.

Chester served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from Michigan State University. He worked for GM Fisher Body where he retired after 35 1/2 years. He has lived in Vero Beach, FL since 1990. Chester was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Dzubinski; son, Dr. David Dzubinski (Chris); daughters, Renee Wuokko (Dale) and Diane Figg (Jeff). Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Stella Dzubinski; sisters, Agnes Novakoski and Irene Czachorski and daughter, Katrina Lockwood.

Funeral services were held, Friday, October 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel with Rev. Fr. Bob Bacik officiating. The family received relatives and friends, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home on the day of the service. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.palmerbush.com.


James Lee Hebeler

James Lee Hebeler, of St. Johns, died peacefully at home on February 24, 2022. He was 66 years old.

James was born on June 17, 1955 in St. Johns, Michigan, one of four children born to parents, Donald Lee Hebeler and Anita Roberts. He graduated from St. Johns High School and enjoyed a long career as a journeyman electrician, until his retirement two years ago. James loved to work on projects, watch MSU sports and mow the lawn. He was a great leader and a father and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sabrina Hebeler and Samantha Lischefski; their mother, Pam Hebeler; grandchildren, Michael and Isla Lischefski; siblings, Paul (Deb) Hebeler and Shari (Burt) Koenigsknecht, as well as extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce Hebeler.

Cremation has taken place.

LaVerne Hugh Argersinger

LaVerne Hugh Argersinger, of St. Johns, died on Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.

LaVerne was born on June 15, 1935 on the family farm in St. Johns, the oldest of eleven children born to Hugh C. and Lila F. (Johnson) Argersinger. Following graduation from Rodney B. Wilson High School, LaVerne met the young Jeannette Pearl Cook at Eureka Church and after a brief courtship, they married on October 6, 1956.

In 1958, LaVerne was drafted in the United States Army and proudly served his country at Fort Riley in Kansas and Germany. Upon returning home, LaVerne and Jeannette made their home on the Argersinger family farm for eleven years before building their home next door in 1967 and raising their two children. For many years, LaVerne and his family tended eighty acres of farmland and for over forty-six years, he enjoyed a career with General Motors. He had a fondness for his collection of John Deere tractors, one that has been in the family for years, and was meticulous about his lawn and vegetable gardens.

LaVerne and Jeannette were well traveled and had a passion for camping and exploring. They began tent camping and transitioned to monthly trips with the Weekenders RV Club and Cedar Creek Club in their fifth wheel. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, watching the Detroit Lions and wintering in Florida, where he could also attend the Detroit Tigers spring training.

He will forever be remembered for his kind heart, attention to detail and craftsmanship, meticulous nature, and love for his family.

Surviving are his son, Marvin (Amber) Argersinger; daughter, Pam (Mat) Gove; grandchildren, Rae Lynne (Chris) Bergman, Leigh Anne Argersinger, Nicolaus Gove (Samantha Dick), Cameron Gove, Kyla Argersinger, and Eli Argersinger; great-grandson, Jayden Bell; brothers, Melvin (Marilyn), Richard (Judy) and Alden Argersinger; sisters, LaVone Suski, Hazel (Wendell) Myers, Wanda Lockwood, Sharon Pease, Sandra Price, Beverly (Raymond) Falkiewicy; brother-in-law, Stan Clark as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeannette in 2021; parents; grandson, Andrew Marvin Argersinger; brother, Gale Argersinger; and sister-in-law, Beulah Clark.

A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 11 AM. Burial and Military Honors Eureka Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 5-8 PM.


Sandra Denise Patterson

Sandra Denise “Sandy” Patterson, age 67, of Houghton Lake, MI, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, February 28, 2022. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a later date.

Sandra was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 20, 1954, the daughter of Adam Almond and Shirley Ann (Plowman) Bailey. Sandy graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1972. She married Kim Wesley Patterson on August 4, 1972. Kim passed away on May 28, 2008.

Sandy enjoyed nature, gardening, fishing, and boating, camping and American history. She enjoyed anything outdoors and she played many years on a softball league in St. Johns. Sandy and Kim enjoyed traveling around the country together and taking fall color tours. She dedicated her life to her children and cherished time with her grandchildren. She supported her children in all of their school events and was the loudest one cheering at their swim meets. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Bryan and Morgan Patterson of Vassar, MI; Jamie and Matthew Martin of Lexington, KY; Wesley and Jessica Patterson of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren: Bobby, Georgia, and Kim Patterson, Myles, Zoe, Caedmon, and Emerson Martin, and Logan and Annabel Patterson; and her brother Jeff and Brenda Bailey of St. Johns, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kim.
